I really like the lens. I made a tripod foot for it before they were available from Nikon. Here are photos and some of the setups that I use:

Digital projectors vary a lot in the quality of the image that they project. The better ones have adjustments and cost more.

Nice work.

Thanks. I would like to see a Do It Yourself (DIY) section here at UHH. We could share DIY ideas/solutions or just ask the group for a DIY idea or solution. The macro section has a lot of DIY macro set ups that I have learned from and gotten ideas.

Make a wooden grip like I made for my 70-200 mm. It also had a flash bracket option too.

I use a fine point permanent silver sharpie to mark my accessories. I also put the dates that I got the batteries on them.

"Filling the umbrella is a function of the distance between the strobe and the umbrella, as well as the angle provided by the reflector used. With a narrower reflector the umbrella needs to be farther from the strobe." Apaflo speaks with tenured wisdom here... I have "calibrated" my illumination source to umbrella offset distance both for strobes (with standard 6" parabolic reflectors) and also speedlights (with diffusion dome and set to widest spread). The results can (and do) make a HUGE difference so it would be wise not to neglect this step...

btw, for portraiture with the same rig I find a "shoot through" umbrella configuration is so much more pleasing in as it allows for softer transitions zones... That is unless you are looking for the drama provided of rapid transition...

As so many others have mentioned... continuous while essential for video will leave one longing for more power... especially when stopping down for macro/micro captures...

Hope this helps...

Good point on the diffusion dome. I will add that to my DIY setup.
Thanks

Here is my DIY setup:
# 28 @ https://gofish.smugmug.com/Other/Other-assorted-photos/i-bXX5CLp

For mushrooms and small flowers I place the umbrella on the ground so it casts diffused light on the subject. If needed you can use the flash and fire it outside of the umbrella.

Check out this e-book that discusses the use of flash and shows how to build one similar to yours:
http://www.digitalbirdphotography.com/4.3.html

I have put the flash on a light stand or had a friend point it and moved the flash away from the camera to avoid red or grey eye. These nest and posing shots were made doing this.

See my photos # 40,44 and 57 for other examples of how to get the flash away from the camera @ https://gofish.smugmug.com/Other/Other-assorted-photos/i-JQT8dB3

The flash that you made is another example of why we need a Do It Yourself (DIY) section here at UHH.

Did you calibrate the camera with and without the teleconverter? If not, calibrate both and try it again.

Cut the legs off a sturdy tripod for the size you want and put a rubber tips on the ends. I made this one to make photos from my kitchen window with my 600 mm lens,

I wonder if Rockwell Products has any connection with Ken Rockwell. Some of that dialog sounds familiar.

That was tacky and I loved it.
