Can anyone recommend a mini tripod for ground level photography?
How low can you go?
I was looking for a light mini tripod to take along with my regular tripod.
I usually take two, Joby Gorilla and MeFoto, both are available from B&H. I use the Joby with a short lense and the MeFoto with a 200mm or longer. Hope that helps.

My one main carbon fiber tripod goes from flat on the ground to almost 7' tall, with no center column. It's rated to 55# load and handles the heaviest of gear with ease and great stability. I hate carrying extra gear when one product will do it all. Nest NT-364CT
Plus 1 for the Joby Gorilla. I also use a Sirui 3T-35K Tripod.
Many tripods let you take the center column out and put it back in upside down. You will be shooting upside down but you can go right to the ground. I have found that the "pro" tripods included in package deals are sturdy if you do not extend the legs so they are noit too bad for low work. - Dave

I don't have a mini tripod, but I can get fairly low with my regular tripod (I do not really know how low, would have to measure, but I guess, its around 5-6 inches, that includes the height of ball head)!
Berlebach. It has wood legs and is light and vibration resistant. Also any good travel pod can double as both: Low to the ground, and the better ones can be used standing

Ditto, here. Since 5-6 inches is the MWD for 1:1 there's really no reason to get lower

I just went through that looking for a table top tripod and they are either extremely expensive or have a very low load limit. 5 or 8.8 lbs is not something I want to trust my gear to.
I got a ProMaster XC525 that came with a decent ball head (but I don't like ball heads) and holds 22 lbs. $169
It is machined aluminum so more vibration than carbon fiber. 15 1/2" and 3.25 pounds (goes up to 59") and it has a second center post only 3" long for getting low. With the legs spread its diameter is less than my big tripod's folded length. One leg also becomes a monopod. They have a XC522 that folds to less than 12" (goes to 49" tall) and weighs less than 2 lbs without head (comes with one for $139). It holds 11 lbs so if you don't go in for big lenses like me it should do nicely.
These are from ProMasters high end line. Being aluminum they come in pretty anodized colors like blue, green, red, pink and copper (head is in matching color). The salesman looked in the back room and found a mostly black one for me with steel blue/blue gray legs.

I have some severe physical limitations that will not allow me get down to the level I'd like some times and I've developed my own solution to the problem. Maybe not exactly everyone's cup of tea, but it works for me! I set my camera on a 12-secnd delay, pre-focus at a distance I think will work for what I'm trying to capture and shoot several shots at different apertures to get several different depths of field and preview each shot as I go along. It might be worth a try. It will also work for shots that are high up, such as when at an outdoor concert. You can reach well above the crowd and get shots that otherwise would be impossible.
FWIW, I have a Beike 03 ball-head attachment to my monopod that allows me to position my camera as almost unlimited angles. Don't let the low price of the Beike put you off. To date, I've bought three of them, two for my tripods and one for my monopod and all have worked to perfection!
