Hi all,
I am new to this site..just a few days and honestly I too was pretty disturbed with this knucklehead. That's all he is. Some people thrive on negative attention. Why don't we just ignore him and move on to more productive interaction. I have read all the reply's and they are all valid but we are wasting our time blathering at this guy. He is just a sick individual holding a "Jesus Loves You" sign at a football game. Eventually he will go away. I for one am interested in talking photography. OK?

I think you did a fabulous job! The water mark is fine where it is. I give 1 & 2 an A++ and 3 an A-. For your first attempt at this you are way farther ahead of the game. Very creative. The model helps a lot too but you have to press the shutter button at the right time or it doesn't happen. Good job. I think they are sell-able.

yes it is my composition and thank you for the compliment. I worked my ass off to get that pose. Whats the old and phrase "there's no substitute for hard work". It is becoming more and more clear to me that our society is filled with gadgets that are designed to reduce the work factor and add the lazy factor. If your business is failing I think we as pros in any field must stop and ask ourselves which side of the fence we stand. I know where I stand and am getting work. If you are in this to make money the art will follow. I am in it for the money but jeez its nice to look back to see a trail of creativity. I love being a photographer!

Specialization!!! I came into this profession from the printing industry. I owned a small offset printing business for 25 years and went through a similar shock when desktop publishing evolved in the 90's. Everyone who owned a computer and a printer thought they could save $$$ by doing there own printing in their office or at home. True some did save money at first but realized better equipment was needed to produce the same quality of product we were providing. The time it took for them to realize this is what hurt my business. It took in some cases a year to 18 months of DIY until giving up and going back to a pro. It forced me into specialization. Specialization works and I would strongly urge anyone out there who has been spreading themselves thin by doing a little bit of everything to consider specialization. I have spent the last 5 years just learning the art of photography.... and have a lot more to learn.... but I now know enough to begin a specialty. It is working.

If internal camera sharpening is active...deactivate and sharpen photo in post process using Photoshop or Elements. 2 ways to sharpen...conventional using unsharp tool or in Photo shop using High Pass filter. Google tutorial for High Pass...it works very well.

I understand the need for calibration but if the guy can't afford the software and does not have the skills to use the software an easy fix is Trintron until he gets up to speed with the software. Calibration is easy for a pro...

Manual is ok for short exposures but for longer exposures handling the camera to change exposures time risks camera movement and is a bad habit to get into ...and is a lazy mans way of shooting. Learn how to use the AEB mode. Read the manual. Go to www.tonysweet.com. Read his stuff....

Save yourself the brain damage and set all the colors on your screen back to default settings, get on Craigs list or go to a used computer store and buy an old flat screen Trinitron monitor. Trinitron is the key word. Its Sony's technology, I have no idea what it means but I know the default settings are as true color as it gets without calibrating. I picked up 2 monitors for pennies on the dollar..like $15 each. They used to sell for $400-$500 each or more. There are many manufacturers that have adopted the technology. They are being phased out but you can still find them. All my pics look as close to the monitor color as possible. I have had color labs print my work for customers and the samples sent to me are spot on to the monitor quality and color. When they color correct I can see the subtle change they made by comparing to my screen and then I can match my on computer file to theirs. I think the screen you need with current technology may cost a fortune to get the color accuracy you are looking for. The CRTs are beasts but they work. I need the accuracy for not only photos but for graphic art work designing and selling printing. If you are going to do this it make sure the monitor is a flat screen Trinitron. I have a 21" Dell but again other manufacturers have adopted the Trinitron technology. Good luck.

There are 2 buttons lower front right of Nikon D300 camera next to lens. The lower button controls the # of exposures in your bracket burst. Hold the button in, look at the top lcd then rotate the back thumb wheel to change the # of exposures in the bracket burst from 3 to 9. Set camera EV to "1" and bracket burst mode to "High". If you want to spread the EV between brackets to "2" you need to set bracket burst to 9 and then in Photomatix under "advanced" choose 1,3,5,7,9...skipping the even numbered exposures..2,4,6,8 to spread the EV by "2" between exposures. Hope this helps and isn't too much info.
