The question was - which is better.

If you think neither is a clear winner - than dont waste our time pontificating on why you think there are pro's and cons - nd then not even saying what you think are the pro's and con's ! What does your rambling say ? ..... It says people may have design preferences - in response to the question - which is better. You are clearly the type that just likes to hear yourself speak. You dont even care what you are saying. You just like to be listened to. In actuality - you are just wasting peoples time here.

markjay, which type do you think is better?
I use booth. Sony a6000 and Nikon D500. For me hands down D500 is better. Bought the a6000 for an extra camera. My wife wanted a smaller lighter camera and my daughter needed a camera for a South African Safari vacation we went on in June.

D500 controls and menu system is better. Both take nice pictures. a6000 can be a kind of point and shoot if you want to go full automatic. Live View is simpler for some adjustments on the a6000.

I never said you were stupid.
I said the idea was stupid.
Unless it applies to you as well.

OK I get i, but there you go again, even after I said I never did do it. Like I have said, I have seen people using a monopod in a moving truck but a boat makes larger moves and I agree with you.

Ditto on the monopod. Stupid idea to use one as it just accentuates the boat motion where hand holding you naturally adjust for most of the motion and you don't have the motor vibration being transferred to the camera that a mono-pod would do.

Thanks for calling me stupid. The reason I asked is saw a guy using one on a tourist truck on a safari in S. Africa. Never said I would do that just tossed out the question.

I did not use a monopod when we went. But I guy had a monopod on the truck at at a Safari picture shoot I went on a few weeks ago and his shots came out nice. But I find in these situations you have to be flexible because you have to move quickly due to the movement of the animals.

Oh, good, it can come to my yard and pick off all the squirrels so my dogs will stop barking at the squirrels.

Can you bring a monopod? I used an 18-200 in Monterey California Things happen fast so handheld worked. I only wish I had a 200-500 lens. Did not own one at the time. The towel suggestion was good. Things get wet.

I needed to purchase a second camera for my daughter to use on a trip to Africa we were taking together with friends from Europe. I decided to buy the Sony a 6000 for her to use with the two kit lenses. One was a -16-50 the other 55-210. I use the Nikon D500 with the 80-400 lens.

A small Nikon was perfect for my daughter. Easy to hold worked pretty well although she kept it on automatic. I have played with the Sony in manual mode and I do like the way you can make adjustments and see through the electronic viewfinder what you're giving.

But personally I prefer my Nikon over and mirrorless.

Sometimes I take the Sony a6000 with me to jobs where we have integration installation (A/V) happening so I can have pictures of the befit/after and don't want to take a large camera.

Came home from work around 6:30pm yesterday and saw a hawk in my front garden. . Ran inside, grabbed my Nikon D500 slammed my 200-500mm lens on it. Quickly looked at my settings and got this shot. Got lucky. You can't see it but he had caught a squirrel.

I don't know what a Solmeta Geotagger Pro is, but look at pages 253-4 in your owners manual for GPS, and index p. 396. Solmeta, is that a type of Salamander?

Thank you,

I bought a Solmeta Geotagger Pro to use with my D500. But, I don't see a GPS setting in the D500 menu. Do you know if you can use a GPS device with the D500? I know I can use snapebridge and my iphone. Any info would be helpful.

I like my Sony a6000 for use when I travel and want to not pack a lot or use for shots of our AV integration projects. But for pucture taking trips normally I bring my D500 200-500 18-200 and 35mm.

I'm still waiting for the day when I go through one battery on mine. I almost always use the LCD. Same thing with the E-PL5, and it only has a LCD. In fact, same thing with the Panasonic GM1 and the Kodak S-1...

Panasonic is a world leader in manufacturing batteries. Tesla is in bed with Panasonic when it comes to batteries.
