If I were the Op and this had happened to me, and still unresolved, I'd do the following and give feedback in this thread;

a) Sort through the images and find two more at different locations where this had happened as he states. Post them to show that the 'shadow' (whatever) is identical in each as mentioned. Give or retain the exif in each.

b) Note what the settings are for each example/location, A/S/ISO/EC.

c) As this happened indoors (I assume that refers to home) use those same settings in the same locations with same framing at preferably similar ambient light conditions, both with and without on camera flash.

Post the findings.

I really can't understand your concerns. This forum has a gallery where those who wish to display their pics can, of which contributions vary from the excellent works to mundane holiday snaps. It also has a 'Main photography discussion' section where members who want to discuss 'technicalities' can do that.

I see very little relevance to the difference in value of someone's sensible technical advice (any subject) based on how many pictures they post.

I'm having a hard time putting face recognition on my camera
I've been through many steps to put the tracking and yellow square in action but its just not there.
I use AFC matrix used fn1&2 spin front and back wheels and still no tracking no yellow or red squares whats wrong.
I do basket ball games at the line and the faces are not tack sharp.

On the Z6 (likely same for Z6ii) you must be in 'Auto-area AF' with setting 'a4' set to 'Face and eye detection on' or 'Face detection on'. Problem is that in Auto-area AF it can jump to any face/eye that will likely not be the one you want.

I need a new video card for my computer. The current one is a nVidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and the fan is getting noisy. I presume this means it will fail shortly. The problem is that I cannot find a replacement fan and nVidia does not have any. The current card is a gaming one with 4 Gb.

Since I cannot find a fan, I presume I have to replace the entire card before it dies altogether. The most intensive programs are Photoshop and Premiere Pro. No games. Adobe recommends just 4 Gb with DirectX 12 support for PS.
What do you recommend?

Thanks for your help.

I very recently purchased an 8GB 'ZOTAC GeForce RTX 4060 GAMING Twin Edge' from B&H to upgrade my system from a slow 2GB GPU.

This was specifically for speeding up PS ACR Denoise AI, result was from 12 minutes to do one image down to 20 seconds for the same image. Reviews, based on gaming mentioned slight fan noise that could be tuned with software but it's in my PC on my desk and I can't hear it even when working hard.

One of my reasons for purchasing this model was that it's recommended power supply was 500W, which my PC had, whereas the specs for many models recommended a larger 550W PSU. Possibly something I need not have bothered about.

There are three models, I got the white one because I pressed the wrong button. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1774308-REG/zotac_zt_d40600q_10m_geforce_rtx_4060_gaming.html

Mirror slap isn’t about the sensor vibrating. It’s the entire camera. I’ve never noticed it being an issue. You’re right that it’s not usually a problem. The place you might notice if you’re doing something like macro or possibly with a higher MP camera.

Mirror slap (or it could be shutter shock) can certainly be noticed when undertaking macro with a tripod, the slower the speed the more evident. I did some tests years ago focused on the eye of a sewing needle to confirm it.

Yes, but it then becomes what the firmware instructs the camera to do with that Expeed 7 processor. And there is no constraint that says that two cameras with the same processor must have the same operating software.

That's pretty obvious to most. There's also "no constraint" that two cameras with the same processor 'don't have' or have 'improved' operating software.

It’s got the Expeed 6…so I doubt it’s the same AF as the Z8/9…but who knows. It doesn’t have the better sensor either which is pretty integral to the AF as well.

It often pays to read the easily found basic sales and promotion literature produced by a manufacturer regarding a specific model. Nikon does not state it has the Expeed 6, but the 7.

Thanks again. One last one - does the preview use up the computer’s hard drive or is it cloud based ?

quote=Grahame]Yes, it will be totally independent from LR. With your images downloaded to a folder in your directory you just navigate your way there.

It's all on the computer hard drive. Looking at task manager whilst it's running, resource use is pretty low.

Having just returned from a 10 day safari to Zimbabwe, I've ended up with an embarassingly large number of photos. I'm sure a majority are duplicates from bursts using a high FPS.
Looking for any suggestions for an efficient way to preview and select (other than Lightroom since I'm currently in the process of uploading a very large number of files from Lightroom to Lightroom Classic so the program will be unavailable for a while).

Try the free 'FastRawViewer', https://www.fastrawviewer.com/
Allows quick viewing, enlarging, rating, labeling, sorting and rejecting.

Indeed it does. This one was supposed to be 45mp. I know Nikon over priced the Df when it came out, so they had to hit a lower price point with this one. But I find it hard to believe an older sensor like the D850, or even the 36mp D810 sensor, which is even older, would cost more than this 24mp. Even if it did price out $100 more, I think most people would pay it willingly, to get a superior higher resolution sensor with no softening filter.

The real killer for me is the AA softening filter. I know the wedding guys will be all over me on that, but I would rather not see my trees at infinity turn to mush.

I know there have been a few responses to this thread saying they feel 24mp is all the detail one needs. I'm going to go out on a limb here, and suggest those folks probably never shot with a true high resolution sensor like the 850 or Z9. If they had, I would think there is a good possibility they might reconsider that opinion. Just sayin.

Surely it's not a model aimed at those that are looking for a 45mp non AA filter camera for serious landscape work at only $2000.

I hope that means they're following a policy of making each camera as good as it can be within the price restraints. Deliberately crippling mid range and low end cameras through fear of cannibalising sales at the high end will only weaken the product line-up and leave the door open for more competitive manufacturers to offer stronger options.

From what I gather the Zf is equipped with the same AF as the Z8. This gives it the AF 3D tracking with subject/face/eye detection which I've found superb. For a camera half the price I believe they've done well.

Haven't found anything helpful in current posts, that describes what the major differences are between for example the Canon 5R mirrorless and the equivalent Nikon. Would someone educate me?
Bryan

If equivalency refers to present cost, here's an article that mentions main 'differences'. Whether these are considered "major", only you can decide based on your preferences.

yes, so what??? I shoot pictures at ISO of 2000+ and that is WHAT DENOISE is for... If I lost a couple of pixels, who gives a crap??? I am not SENDING these images into contests or any mags.... does that help?

You ask, "does that help", yes perfectly. It demonstrates that you have little interest in considering help or attempting to produce the best possible results.
