How much will a non-Pro (VERY "non") notice the difference between f 5.6 (on a Nikkor 18-200mm at full zoom) VERSUS f6.3 (on a Tamron or Sigma 18-200mm at full zoom)? Is the difference "huge", "moderate", or "not that significant except for a Pro"?

Details of lenses forming background for this question...

OR
Sigma DC 18-200MM 1:32.5-6.3 DC OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR
VERSUS

Nice shot. Camera shots can ameliorate chemo shots, as well.

I admire all 3 but #2 grabbed me the most -- it shows the golden ratio in all its astonishing splendor.

Both are superb. When I look at the *cool,* I wish I had taken that photo. When I look at the *warm*, I want to walk across that bridge, enter that barn, and see what's inside.

I think that God is neither Liberal nor Conservative. He does, however, have a sense of humor, usually of the form known as Dry & at other times known as irony. Herewith is one of many possible examples from The Message (Bible translation).....
Quote:
Who are the people who are always crying the blues? Who do you know who reeks of self-pity? Who keeps getting beat up for no reason at all? Whose eyes are bleary and bloodshot?

It's those who spend the night with a bottle, for whom drinking is serious business.

Don't judge wine by its label, or its bouquet, or its full-bodied flavor. Judge it rather by the hangover it leaves you with— the splitting headache, the queasy stomach.

Do you really prefer seeing double, with your speech all slurred, reeling and seasick, drunk as a sailor?

"They hit me," you'll say, "but it didn't hurt. They beat on me, but I didn't feel a thing. When I'm sober enough to manage it, bring me another drink!"
Proverbs 23:29-36
Who are the people who are always crying the blues... (show quote)

On a lighter note:
A critic is someone who hides in the hills while the battle rages in the valley below. After the battle is over, the critic descends to the valley and shoots the wounded.

Of course, this bit of frivolity doesn't apply so well to critiques of photographs, but it's the only schtick I have at the moment.

But seriously -- I disagree with the idea of using the "ignore button" for those folks who seem troll-like. People can change, & need the opportunity to do so. I have often found that even the most venomous of critiques can sometimes have a sentence or 2 of good counsel written in a more-or-less normal tone. If one ignores the venomous sentences & quotes only the temperate sentences, with a remark such as, "Good point" or "I get it -- thanks", the "soft answer" can make a point without actually saying it.

Overused but often true:
1-A soft answer turns away wrath.
2-Don't feed the trolls
3-Praise good behavior & ignore the other. Result (sometimes): positive motivation.

Sid Caeser, Red Skelton, Jack Benny -- all 3 were superb mimes, in addition to being hilarious stand-up comics and actors. Sadly, much of today's stand-up is heavily laced with 4-letter words.

The headlights are amazing! I would say the car's stunning color approaches gun-metal gray. As for making that car today, the external spare tires would likely get stolen or ice-picked in fairly short order. As a kid, I often rode in a rumble seat -- joy, joy, joy!

Georgeous pictures. Thanks!!!

Sometimes the barb in a reply is written tongue-in-cheek. Some folks seem to forget that, with the written word, the reader cannot see the twinkle in your eye.

Thanks to all the latest posts. It's good to find that this forum is not totally composed of belittlement & put-downs. The early posts were very discouraging.

Many thanks to nikonbug, Bill_de, & Haydon. Your informative posts helped me better understand the reality & methodology for battery calibration as pertains to cameras.

Evidently, the need for calibrating lithium-ion batteries occurs much less often (and for different reasons) than is the case for nicads, but I didn't know that.

The need to calibrate lithium-ion multi-cell batteries for laptops is quite common, but it is usually taken care of by the OS + BIOS, seldom requiring user intervention. It turns out that it is less common with the smaller lithium-ion batteries used by cameras, but I didn't know that either.

There were several online articles (such as THIS one in particular) that also added to my understanding of this matter.

I went to Amazon to order Nikon EN-EL 14A Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery for my D3500. One of that battery's selling points was: "The EN-EL4a even gives notice when calibration is necessary." This is something I never heard of before so I checked UHH, D3500 users manual, nikonusa.com, & did a google-search. I found discussions of why battery calibration might become necessary, but no explanation of HOW to do it on my Nikon D3500.

Any suggestions or comments would be muchly appreciated.
