Hi

@Chicopee - the 7200 is (was) Nikon’s most advanced DX camera until the D500 came out (admittedly, MHO). While the latter remains in production, the D7200 does not, so if you want one, you have to find used (I am not even finding refurbs, which is what I bought, remaining).

I cannot verify Dave’s comment on lens compatibility, but would recommend you confirm your specific lens vs D7200 on Nikon’s lens compatibility tables to give yourself piece of mind.

Just wish I could justify the 2nd body. I can say I am quite pleased with the D7200. As I always want distance (sports), the 24MP DX sensor with the 1.4 crop factor is excellent. My only reason to upgrade would be the separate and faster auto-focus system in the D500. Would love to have, but with what I shoot, the D7200 is working just fine.

Good luck with your decision.

I love this camera body. Just wish I could find the massive rationalization needed to pick up your version as a second/backup. Alas, have not- at least not yet.

Would be very surprised this does not go, fast.

Good luck

Contact me by PM when you decide to sell the lenses.

Thank you to all of you that responded. I think my fear was more driven by recent health issues, then anything else.
I neglected to mention, that I lived in Paris for three years in the early 2000’s.
I also know that assaults and mugging on tourists are under reported for business reasons, understandably.
My camera is a black Leica P That is basically unlabelled. My camera bag is a cross body, repurposed foreign army OD ammunition bag.
I am mostly interested in street photography late at night on a small tripod. Thank you all for your input I really appreciate it

Based on this follow up, and with your knowledge of the city, you got this!.

Your cross body bag is a good start, and will not make it look expensive. I like the suggestion for a single (or small number) of lenses, if nothing more to keep your weight down and make the day more enjoyable.

If you are really worried, get a rider for your homeowners insurance for piece of mind on this specific camera. More importantly are the images rather than the camera, so take make sure you can either swap to a new card each day or download each night to a backup device, keep all of that separate from your day bag. That way, if the worst happens, you still have the “memories”

-Finally. You mention you are taking pictures, which sounds like more of a fun sightseeing trip with family. You may consider a pocket sized camera like the Sony RX100, which i love as an upper-end “point and shoot”.

Have fun, take normal precautions, and share your best image upon return

My solution for more devices than outlets is a powered usb hub. I assume one end of the cables is a usb2. Get a hub with at least 4 outlets at times I wish for 6or8. They can be found at Best Buy, Target and as a last resort WallyWorld.

I second this solution. Make sure it is powered, especially if 4+ ports, as it will help with current draw issues.

If you have a laptop (you don’t say), would recommend a docking station as an alternative. For my Mac laptop, I have a full universal docking station, with multiple monitor ports, SD card slot, 4 USB-C/FireWire ports, and 6 older USB ports. All items plug in, and one cable to computer.

@Ray - thanks

@Jules. Yes, but as noted at a track you are limited, especially in a field event where this is usually but a handful of angles at which to capture the event and the face/eyes at the same time.

I have tried to convince them to move the HJ and PV platforms where it would give me a nice forest background, but no dice yet. :).

Nice action shot of the flopper.

All the jumpers flop nowadays, don’t they?

Yes, after Dick Fosbery whom “invented” the flop technique in late ‘60s. Still see some jumpers going over headfirst or scissor kicking, but it is in general only at heights about 4.5 ft or lower. Any serious HJ working on max height will be going over with the flop

thanks for looking

Hi

Track officials allowed me to get in really close to the bar yesterday. So close I was shooting between 70-100mm. Was able capture this athlete setting a new PR @ 6ft 4.5in, breaking his own PR by 5 inches and his HS record, set in 1968, by 1.5 inches. He had won the meet at 6-2, but told me he was “in the grove” at that height and just felt he could work up from there.

Really happy with how this shot is framed with the sign in the background. I probably had too much DOF, but it was hard keeping them in focus so I went up more f stops than normal (bright sunny day helped keep ISO in check!) It may not post with great resolution off my iPad, but on the computer I can see the individual hairs on his leg and arms!

Enjoy

There are several good responses above - those that are “let kids be kids”. Your assignment, not hers, is to make it as fun as possible to create the desire and joy that it can bring. All the technical stuff can come later - as she wants to learn. Start with as automatic as it gets(program or scenes), and add a control at a time as she wants it to happen to get specific results.

I love the ideas around finding out what she wants to take pictures of, and then make that happen. I also like the idea of you and her both on similar cameras. It will feel like she is growing up.

I would add a suggestion of some kind of digital frame where she can “post” her work for the family to see. I like Nixplay due to its online control, but any digital frame will work. the more she sees her own work, and the more she gets encouragement from other family members, the more she will want to do.

Good luck

Agree, camera is handling it well. Nice shots

I really like the catcher, but the color/exposure seems a bit off to me (at least on the iPad in comparison with the other shots). A bit washed out. Comparing the black uniforms with the group shot right below it. Can you darken it up a bit? The composition, with his feet in motion, is terrific

Hi Tom

In terms of shooting through the fence, I think you are fine. There are a few of what you posted that I think I can find a slight hint of an fence artifact, but I was looking for it (and knew what I was looking for as you had asked). May not have noticed it otherwise. Overall, I think not an issue. Thomas gives excellent advice (And examples), especially about wide open and right up to the fence. Your shots appear to me, at least on my ipad, tack sharp on the player

In moving to the new shooting location, you will have to experiment with how to frame well. New angles, new distances, how to capture faces and eyes from those angles. That will just take a few outings to work out until you find what you want.

At least you are out shooting.....

Great shots

First shot of the picture is stunning. The one with the batting cage net is oddly intriguing with the net looking like strange waves and Distortions
