I had meetings at the speedway yesterday. After the meetings I had the opportunity to take some hand held shots.
All shots were taken with the EOS 7D MKII and Canon 100-400 IS L USM II.
The first two were taken at 1/200, ISO was auto, F/8 the last two were taken at 1/1000, f/6.3, ISO was auto.

Ah ha! that might be the answer here - the R has a Fv option where you can set any 2 of the 3 settings and let the camera set the third. Brilliant advice thanks, set the shutter speed to hand-held sufficient to eliminate motion blur (IS on) and aperture to get good depth of field and then see what ISO the camera figures out! I don't remember Fv mode on my 6D.

Manual with Auto ISO, same result with the 6D.

Thanks for the replies, and info, my camera is a Canon 6D mkii, with a Tamron 110-400mm f/4.5 lens, since the Canon teleconverters may not be compatible with other brands, I'll try a Tamron teleconverter that I found online for a great price.
Hopefully I'll have some images to post in a couple of weeks.
Thanks,
Steve

@400mm your lens is f/6.3.
The 6D MK II will not autofocus with the 2x teleconverter.
The (Model TC-X14) will autofocus with your lens and camera @ f/8 according to the Tamron Compatibility list.
@ f/8 the 6D MKII will only center point autofocus.

50 years ago I started calling water DiHydrogen Oxide as a teenager.
Adding "Mono" is perhaps redundant as "Oxide" by definition identifies the compound as having at least one oxygen atom. Perhaps "mono" clarifies a single oxygen atom, regardless both are correct.

Just curious...
Are you selling because it didn't live up to expectations or just to get something new?
I already bought one and should be here tomorrow.

When it arrives, give it a go with BIF and post some pictures.
I found larger birds to be ok.
For me, the smaller more erratic birds are more difficult.

This holds true for any camera however.

No need for gimbal stabilizer. Instead shoot at 1/4000 sec.

Does anyone have experience with this camera? I would appreciate comments pro and con. Thanks.

Depending upon the use case, you may find the Panasonic FZ-1000II appealing.
A comparison of both can be found at:

Following Fayle’s funny joke about supermarket smells I always think of this one when I’m at the poultry display case:

A woman asks the meat manager for their freshest whole chicken. The manager brings out a large roaster and hands it to her.

The woman skeptically takes the bird, separates the legs and rubs her fingers inside each thigh to check for foreign matter. She then prods and pushes each breast for firmness. Finally, she lifts each wing and smells underneath.

The manager, who’s watching all this, asks, “Madam; could YOU pass such a test?”
