I'm new to this group and was wondering if someone could recommend post production software that I can fully purchase or get for free. I'm not interested in paying monthly or free trials ECT...
Is there anything worthwhile.
Thanks Tony

I use the PS/LR subscription along with a couple of freebees such as FastStone. If the $120/yr is not up your alley (and it wasn't for me for some time) I would highly recommend Photoshop Elements 2020. This program is kind of the little brother to full fledged Photoshop and is a very good program. The unseen benefit is that whatever you learn on this software will all be applicable if you should decide on the subscription version later on. I just saw Photoshop Elements 2020 for $70 at Walmart and you own it, no annual dues. Good luck and welcome to UHH.

Does anyone own or have owned the original RX10?
Wanting to know if it does macro or decent close-ups.
They are really cheap now and I was thinking of getting one to carry on my walks.

Bought one for cheap a couple of years ago. Takes real nice images. Subsequently bought RX10IV for longer zoom range but kept the RX10 in bag for backup. I don't do much macro but I snapped this a few minutes ago. Manual mode, auto focus (1 inch from front lens to subject, 24mm zoom, ambient light). Hope this helps.

I will be waiting, CC in hand, for a fantastical (sp) deal on the 5DIV as dealers look to clean off their shelves.

I do believe there was a report here recently indicating a very large increase in Americans wanting to come to NZ. And a lot of your millionaires/billionaires have bolt holes here.
The US does have cheap goods, a pretty bad race problem, a pretty bad healthcare system, not a very good reputation overseas for finishing conflicts properly once started, just as many poor people as other countries, an over emphasied feeling of their own superiority, a political system that beggars belief, an ability to bury their heads in the sand when facing real problems. In other words just as many problems (not all the same ones mind but still just as many) as most other countries with my last point above being the worst of them.
By the way hoards is spelt wrong, it should be hordes - maybe this is an indication of your education system as well ? One thing you are good at is hoarding the worlds wealth. Unfortunately China is now trying to get some of it - don't bury your heads in the sand over that.

If anyone in this country wants to move to NZ, or anywhere else for that matter, they should go. No one is going to miss them or stop them.

Actions speak much louder than words. How many leftie celebrities have said that if so and so wins the e******n I am moving to Canada or France or some other location outside of the USA? How many have actually done so? Wanting to do something and actually doing it are not the same. The "hordes" of human beings from numerous foreign countries that are actually doing something, often illegally, to achieve what they want, which is to live in the USA, far surpasses those in this country who are actually leaving for foreign shores for wh**ever reason they have. The USA is far from perfect but it beats all of the alternatives and the whole world knows it, except those whose h**e prevents them from admitting it. If it were not for the USA we might all be speaking German today.

As to our educational system, our universities are packed with non citizens here to get an education. Look what the numbers are comparing those from other lands coming here to get an education to US citizens who are going to another country for theirs. The last time I checked it was about 3 foreigners coming to the US to every 1 getting their educations outside the US. These are facts and wishing them false is fruitless.

Actually the word is spelled correctly just applied incorrectly but then lefties always turn to personal attacks when facts get in their way.

When are you leaving for NZ? Hope you have a wonderful trip. I hear everyone is moving there these days. Maybe you can show them what is wrong with their country when you get there.

I don’t believe I ever said that your country is so bad.
I did compare c*******m with capitalism and said I think that capitalism is the lesser of two evils and will last longer.
And your society is not far far superior to anyone elses on earth. What arrogance ! Your country has a huge number of problems, just not as many or maybe as serious (yet) to a c*******t country.
And I have been watching what is happening in Hong Kong probably far more than you based on what you have said.
You make it sound like the Hong Kong residents wanted what is happening now and chose these options. They had NO CHOICE.
Hong Kong went back to China under an agreement made I believe in 1898 when a treaty was signed giving HK back to China. And China agreed to let HK rule itself except for foreign relations and defense for a further period of 50 years finishing in 2047. The residents had NO CHOICE and did not want it.
The CCP has grabbed HK back after 22 years totally breaking the agreement. So you cannot believe anything the Chinese say or enter into any agreement with them because they will break it at their will.
This is the government some of your pension funds have agreements with – best of luck with that.

Give me the names of all these wonderful other countries and show me the evidence of the long lines of Americans seeking asylum there. Compare that to the hoards walking hundreds of miles in order to come to America. What is the spin you can put on that fact? I do believe this is the greatest country on earth bar none and I am not afraid to say it.

There are two questions here. And I cannot answer either. I can give a few thoughts about the matter though as to what might be required to make it work.
A truly C*******t society would need to work for the good of the people. The ruler, controlling group, or however you want to lead this society would all need to firmly believe in working for the people and make decisions around this. The very first thing you would have to make sure of is that you DO NOT interfere in other countries affairs, that you do nothing to increase your territory, and that anything you do does NOT have as one of its goals anything to increase your own wealth or power. No country on this earth can claim to meet these goals so therefore no true c*******t society.
Obviously you also need some way of stopping people who want to overturn this. And I am making an assumption that "this" does not need or deserve overturning because there will always be people whose makeup requires them to always go against any authority no matter how good it is.
Russia and China who I guess everybody would claim are the largest c*******t countries (but there are others who claim they are c*******t) both have leaders whose egos are so large that they exist to make money. We know that China cannot be c*******t because they have k**led too many of their OWN people while chasing after wh**ever goals they have.
As I said at the beginning I have no idea of what a truly c*******t country would look like but there are definitely some things they should NOT be doing and all our supposedly c*******t countries are busy doing these as fast as they can.
As to how you curb the greed of the people I have no sane answer.
There is an insane answer and that is to give everyone something to keep them occupied. A 3rd WW would do that but that only helps some people/countries. Maybe a threat against all mankind might help better but even the possibility of a major environmental catastrophe doesn't seem to be enough. If I wanted to make sure maybe a brain scan at birth might weed a few assholes out but I realise that this isn't really the answer either.
So I have no good answer to either question but I do know that c*******m (as we see it practiced now) and capitalism don't work. Capitalism just has a longer use by period.
And note here that just because I don't know what the solution is doesn't mean that I cannot make a judgement on what we have now.
There are two questions here. And I cannot answer ... (show quote)

Perhaps the lack of a true c*******t society is the reason that the number of people seeking (both legally and illegally) asylum in this country far outnumbers those leaving this country to go to utopias elsewhere. While you and others think this country is so bad, unfair, and anything I hear it called sometimes, to me and hundreds of millions of others, all over the globe, it is far far superior to any other on earth. Look what happened to Hong Kong. I would bet anything they wish they were back under British rule. What they had is now gone forever. No thanks. I like the USA, with all it's warts.

Since we have never had c*******m, see above, I am not sure what point you are making here. China is a capitalist society, it happens to be governed slightly differently than the US for example. There are only two sets of motivations for ruling a country (actually three but since a desire to actually help the country runs a very distant third I am leaving it out). The first is a desire for "power" (or ego) and secondly a desire for "wealth". I am talking about the leaders, not the 100's just under them, and we do see a mix of these two.

Since you believe "there are no, and never has been, a truly c*******t society on this earth. And there cannot be as long as the human race is basically as greedy as it is." What would be your definition of a truly c*******t society and exactly how would you alter the greedy, deplorable human race so they would embrace those ideas?

My comments are for a desktop computer.
I can recommend Dell. I have had 3 top of the line Dells. They are not cheap but they are good. If it comes with something wrong there is help available; they may ask you to replace a card if they send you another card, but overall, my experiences with Dell were good. One other point - the prices seem to change almost daily, be very careful about the tech specs that are listed (it's those spec changes that cause the price change). As I said a moment ago - my overall satisfaction for a Dell is high.

That may be the case for the high end Dells but it has not been my experience with the lower end desktop Dell all in one I have. It is so slow it is painful. 60+ seconds to boot and opening a large image file sometimes even crashes it. I have had two computer shops look at it and one said maybe a SS drive and more memory would help but no guarantees, and the other said I should buy a different machine. I bought a Lenovo Legion Y545 laptop gaming computer last Christmas from Costco that is quite fast. Usually pressing the enter key instantly gives you what you asked for. The Dell is now relegated to email and printing recipes by my wife. Just saying.

Consumers would go in, handle a camera or lens and then go buy it cheaper online.... Same goes for all other goods. It's not the corporation or the shareholders, it's the American public...

AMEN!

Always looking for the "cheapest price" which the majority of the American public (including yours truly) is guilty of, is simply "bargain hunting your way into the unemployment line". Period!

The SX60 makes nice images. This is hand held and I am somewhat shaky. I bought it used a couple of years back and have had no problems as of yet.

This is the reason we can't let our chihuahua out by herself.

Some years back my wife saw an eagle in the trees up behind our house. At the time we had a chihuahua that spent a lot of time in our back yard. My wife actually looked into putting an overhead screen/net to protect the dog. She never did, the dog passed away, and we never saw the eagle again, so we do not have the net. We do have a big tomcat and he is a pretty tough customer. If a bird did manage to get him he might wish he had not.

No tax or shipping with B&H either plus brand new lens with full warranty.

Actually you are paying for the warranty. You should always do what you feel is best for you and not what someone else thinks who has no skin in the game.

That being said, $150 for a one year only warranty on a $600 lens is a mite steep. I only paid $700 for a full three year bumper to bumper warranty renewal on a $30,000 Mustang and that warranty is from Ford Motor and not some third party.

You pays your money and you takes your chances.
