Today I received email from Robert’s Camera in Indianapolis, IN, advertising Harmon’s “Phoenix” color neg film - $13.99 for a 36 exp roll. It is said to provide vivid colors.

I save suitably named JPEG files. As long as my heirs occasionally copy these files as I have, they will last. That is up to them.

iPhones can be set to take JPEG stills and shoot more universal video files.

Setting the iPhone to “most compatible” yields JPEGs.

I use ‘gimp’, which can accept “HEIC” as inputs and can deliver JPEGs as outputs.

what lens is the preferred?

At our older daughter’s receiving her Bachelor’s degree, we were allowed to move from our seats in the stands, and briefly stand where they came down from the stage, so my usual lenses worked fine.

When our younger daughter received her Masters degree {at the indoor gym where Xavier plays basketball}, I insisted that we arrive early, and we were able to find seats where my usual 70-200 35mm equiv lens worked fine {in ambient light}.

It all depends on where, and how hard you work.

A few truisms of late 2023:

Never spend new money on old camera equipment, especially discontinued DSLRs.

An IBIS enabled mirrorless body is better than any DSLR

Any DSLR????? Even an IBIS enabled DSLR? Why would that be? Please don’t confuse the difference between DSLR and MILC with the difference between {discontinued} DSLR without IBIS and {new} MILC with IBIS.

Easy way to answer the question is to search "User List", without creating a thread.

There are limitations to using that method. Admin doesn’t like to remove members. Without going into the details, I took a “several year vacation” from this place; I asked Admin to remove me from the list of ‘members’ because I thought it was deceptive to advertisers, but his answer was to make sure I didn’t receive any email. I am now in my mid-70’s - I assume if I had died, my family wouldn’t have thought to notify UHH.

So, you aren’t the “slow, methodical” type.

I still have my AE-1Program, but it would cost a fortune to get the pics processed! Especially during Oshkosh, when I probably take 3-5K pics. Where can they be done, anyways?

There are photographers using film today, but in a slow methodical way.

Minolta is as Minolta...as AT&T is still AT&T.

It's just a name now.

The later is not quite true. If I recall correctly, “SW Bell” {one of the companies that was created from the original AT&T} purchased several its ‘siblings’ and AT&T, then adopted the name “AT&T” for itself, so the company now known as “AT&T” is a ‘partial’ descendent’ of the original AT&T. Your statement would be meaningful only if Minolta had been broken into pieces and the products bearing the name “Minolta” were produced by one of those pieces.

I have also had the reverse happen more times than I can remember. Where something interesting and unusual was missed being seen and enjoyed due to me fiddling with the camera to get a shot. I have had my wife ask me several times "Wow, did you see that!" If I did see it, it was a brief moment in the viewfinder before it was gone. Many times all I saw was an empty viewfinder.

Reminds me of the dads years ago humping around VCR recorders on their shoulders taking videos of their kids growing up. Years later they regretted that the only time they saw their kids growing up, experiencing life was through the 1-inch viewfinder in their cameras never taking part since they had to "get the shot".
I have also had the reverse happen more times than... (show quote)

I always participate in whatever I’m photographing; have an easy-to-use camera that doesn’t require a lot of ‘fussing’.
