It looks like a device for putting in your flash shoe to tilt the flash. However, if that is the case, you would need a separate cord to trigger the flash

I live in the east and travel out west once a year to visit my son and photograph landscapes and wildlife. Where I live, birds and foxes are about the only wildlife I'm able to find and landscapes are not as rewarding as in the west. So I go west and photograph on the way, then visit my son, and then photograph on the way home. The processing I do is to render clearly what I saw in the scene that attracted me. And I sometimes do panos.

I see no reason to question any processing that others do. In fact, I usually appreciate the results that others post no matter how they have altered the original file.

I apologize for the bad information above. What I meant to say was that I never download the images while the card is in the camera. I take it out to download the images, then put the card back in the camera and format it there, as everybody else was saying.

I never download the images from the card in the camera. Since (rarely) the card becomes corrupted during downloading, I don't want the card in the camera when that is happening.

One property of LR that wasn't mentioned is that it catalogs your images. I save mine by date so all the images on a given date are in the same folder. There are many other ways to catalog your folders--location, people, etc.

My understanding is that PSE works in 8-bit rather than 16-bit. Not something I would be interested in.

I never format in the camera. If there is a problem with the formatting, it may have a bad effect on the camera. I always format in a card reader. They are not expensive and work well.

Take it to someplace like Yellowstone. You can photograph wildlife from the car with that lens.

I have both a Gitzo and an Induro. The construction of the Induro is almost as good as the Gitzo and it costs about half as much. When buying any tripod, try to anticipate future needs. Buy one that will support the largest camera/lens combo you can imagine having. Otherwise you will end up buying a lot of tripods over the years.

LR has a correction which eliminates the problem you are talking about. It is under "lens corrections" /Remove CA.

Over the past 40+ years I have owned a lot of different tripod heads. By far the best I have ever had are the 2 (different sizes) RRS heads. They are the second pair of RRS heads I have owned. The first 2 were stolen along with the tripods when I was traveling.

Chris T, I think you are mistaken that DOF at stopped down apertures depends at all on the maximum aperture. DOF depends only on focal length and lens opening.

If you plan to photograph insects, a longer lens (150mm--180mm) works better. My experience with shorter lenses is that the insect is likely to be frightened off when you get close enough with a shorter lens. I have owned 55mm, 90mm, 100mm, 150mm, 180mm, and 200mm over the years. The last three were the most useful.
