Thanks for the timely alert. I read the article, which has no date, then picked up my phone to check the OS version. Surprise! iOS7.0.6 was waiting to be downloaded!

I have developed the perfect camera. It not only has infinite zoom and perfect clarity it will also select and compose the absolute best shot available wherever you are. Color rendition is astounding. Plus, it will print on the spot up to 8x10. All this and it weighs 4oz and fits in your shirt pocket. It also doubles as a bottle opener. Now, I have to warn you, I only have the one working prototype so it might seem a little pricey, but what is money when you have an opportunity at the perfect camera? Just pm me and I'll let you know where to send the check. Did I mention that it shoots beautiful color in total blackness? :) :) :)

Sorry guys. You are a day late and a dollar short. Victorinox is already producing one of those under their Swiss Army Knife brand. And it does have a fully automatic cork extractor. Not only that, but it is cleared by TSA for carryon!

Check out Microsoft's ICE. It is a pentapixel compositing editor. It will handle (auto arrange and stitch) over 2000 images. My record is 42. Go to microsoft.com and search for ice (image compositing editor. It is a free download.

Well, the filthy-rich have ways of covering. The merely-rich catch the flack. By worldwide standards, the USA is not too bad. We rank in the middle of the pack.

Of course, this does not answer the question of what we get for our money.

Why shoot in JPG and raw? If you can convert raw to JPG in PP why take up the space on your memory card?

Your camera sensor outputs a signal the camera compiles into a raw image. It then uses that image to generate the jpeg you see on the display screen/EVF. If you are shooting RAW, it then embeds that image in the RAW file and sends it to the memory card. If you are shooting JPEG, the JPEG file is sent to the memory card and the original RAW file is trashed. Eventually, all those discarded bit/pixels collect inside the camera and cause all sorts of problems from failing electronics to stuck shutters. The only cure is to replace the camera!

I haven't figured that out either. But what works for me is to set the lens to MF (manual focus) and then use the focus button below the switch.

I posted this on another thread but I think it fits this discussion even better.

There is no such thing as post-processing. It is a continuum of creation until the final image is achieved. Calling it post processing implies that a mistake was made and needs to be fixed. It is at best all processing.

By the way PP is what a kid does in the bathroom.

Once one realizes that it is a continuum they an start to pre-visualize their final image rather than making a bad image and fixing it in "post."

My sentiments exactly. I think of photography as 3 steps:
1. Previsualize an image
2. Capture an image
3. Conform the image to the visualization.

The result is art. Everything else is documentation.

Apparently Panasonic is losing money on their camera business and is scaling back on the range of products it offers.

As with other business lines, it appears that Panasonic is scaling back on consumer products to concentrate on higher end pro and industrial lines. Like so many other manufacturers, the low end products are being killed by smartphones.

As far as I could learn, the "special edition" means you can upload directly to Costco for printing. There is also a coupon for 50 free 4x6's.

Thanks for the headsup. I have been thinking of upgrading my Elements, and with a $30 discount off their normal $80 price, it was a no brainer. This deal is good until the end of the month, or until supplies are gone (?). Non-Costco members pay a $4 fee. (Shipping included). Still a steal. Print credits are a bonus.

All the above recommendations are good, but if you want to get away from the "landscape scene" and have the opportunity and time, visit Death Valley Junction (south end of Park). It would be a ghost town except for the Amargosa Opera House and Hotel (Google it). Lots of interesting history and old buildings. The restaurant is not bad and an opportunity to sit out the harsh mid-day sun with locals. If you can, get a tour of the motel rooms: some neat Trompe d'Oil work.

WAL, I used to have the same problem with my inkjet printers. Even the ones at work, which were neither Epson or Canon, we had the same problem. I was told by the printer rep to use deionized water, to soak the heads in. Well good luck finding deionized water. So one day I took a clean paper towel, folded it in half then half again and made it wet with Just Plain Tap Water and squeezed out most of the water and set the print heads on the paper towel over nite. Well that ended the problem of clogged heads. From time to time, if I saw the ink starting to cake, I used a lintless, 100o/o cotton pad, non-woven fabric, called Webril, I would just make it barely wet. You can get Webril at most medical supply stores. A 100 pad pack should last you several years. I was told never to use alcohol.

I've used this technique myself and have always had luck, except for an HP. Even tech service said "replace it".
 (BTW, deionized and distilled are functionally the same).
I recently came across this web site, offering cleaning kits (and cheap ink systems). I have not used or recommend this, but if I ever have a problem again, I will give it a try.
www.ccs-digital.com/showink.asp?manufact=Epson&showprinter=Artisan+1430&ctipe=All&discountcode=
They have kits for many different printers.
Any UHHrs used this or have comments?
