That was what I was talking about when I said if you buy Refurb buy from the Manufacturer. There is little doubt that Refurb Cameras sold by B&H or Adorama will have anything but minimal activations. When you buy from them is is like buying from Nikon or Canon. In this case I have never even heard of the seller.

I recently purchased a Nikon 1 J3 refurb by Nikon, sold by Beach Camera. It had 13 clicks on it, looks brand new and works perfectly.

I have the Nikon1 S1. I bought mine new. An amazing camera that has been given short shrift in Camera Reviews.

Had purchased a Nikon Factory Refurbished from one of the big NY stores. Boxed with all normally enclosed items. Everything was perfect except it had 40,000 activations. May not be considered high by some ( based on 150,000 expected life), but was concerned about prior usage. Like a car, you are more comfortable with one with 10,000 miles then 90,000....although the higher one may have had better care then the lower one...but who knows. I returned for full credit.

(1) Pays to deal with reputable retailer. (2) The older the model, the better chance it will have high numbers.

If you want to buy refurb it is always safer to do that by buying from the Manufacture direct. This is a good example of that. Nikon would never sell a 40,000 activation camera as a refurb. And I doubt you bought it from B&H or Adorama. Many New York sellers are suspect. I have bought 3 refurbed cameras from Nikon and all had less than 50 activations. Buyer beware.

Has anyone one bought a refurbished camera from Nikon? Were there any problems with the camera? Did you have to send it back? Do they have high shutter counts?

I see that Nikon is offering 10% off their refurbished cameras and this may be a great deal if I know that I'm not getting a camera that has 10,000 shots on it already. I know they are gone over by the Nikon techs but a very used camera won't be worth the money. Is there any type of set standards that keep it from being a very used camera?

Thanks for all your info!!!

I have bought 3 from Nikon. All were like brand new. No problems at all.

Don't get me wrong I've had numerous digital cameras since the early 90s, both Sony and Nikon. This is just my latest setup. Presently I have a variety of Nikon lenses. 14-24mm 2.8, 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8, 105 macro 2.8, Tamron 18-270 and now a 50mm prime.

Good shooting

You will not find a sharper lens than the 1.8 50. Have owned one for years. Would not be without it.

Mr. Softy has done a good job. I'm still running tests before committing a full bore upgrade, but camera sync, scanners are all working smoothly.

Anybody remember Palm PDAs? I have two the most modern being from 2005. That was not even supported in Windows 7, but I found a free device driver which worked on W7, and it's clean on W10.

Palm no longer exists. It was bought and put out of it's misery by HP years ago.

These are not devices supported by anybody for years, and yet worked smoothly. I find that impressive.

So far I haven't found a single show stopper, and I have some seriously old and weird stuff that I can hook up to my machine...

Good luck, people....

I have a Handspring Visor that runs Palm. Handspring was a break-away from palm that added a module slot to all of their PDA's. Never use it anymore but it works perfectly.

I purchased a Sunpak Quanaray tripod from Adorama. It was on sale for $40 from $100, with free shipping. Upon receiving it, I determined that it wasn't suitable for my purposes -- it weighed over 6 pounds. Adorama's return policy, which they tout to be the best in the business, calls for their normal shipping charge to be deducted from the refund on items that were sold with free shipping. In my case that meant that I paid $18 for return shipping and they deducted another $17 for their normal shipping charge. Net, net, I got $5 of my $40 returned to me. I don't think that qualifies as the best return policy in the business. In fact, I think it STINKS!
Has any one else had this experience?

I bought this Tripod as well. It is heavy but it is amazingly well built. Everything is metal on it. Mine lives in the trunk of my car. That said the mark up on this tripod is nill for Adorama. You can not touch another tripod of this quality for $39.99. Your loss was in returning it to begin with. Adorama has a steller reputation with most if not all Hedge Hoggers. This is not a problem with Adorama. You were dealt with fairly by them.

Photoshop Elements 11 (2011) boxed software from Adobe plus a giant printed reference book. Both unopened. this is a legitimate copy bought in Apple store with my laptop in 2011. Includes a version of Premiere.

Free plus actual shipping cost to first interested hog. Send me a private email via UHH. I will correspond Thursday AM (PDT) with the first respondent who copies the above title into the subject line of an email.

This software version and book can be a reasonable way to spin up on PP and Adobe’s solution, until you need more in your software.

I bought and use Elements 11. It is a good program. I also use Zoner. This is a good offer. Jump on it.

I was out looking to spend about $500 so if for $229 this does the job as well as others in that category, that'll make me happy. If not, 15 day return policy is a good thing.

I don't think you will ever return that Camera. The IQ of the Nikon 1 family of cameras and lenses is so good I only bring my Nikon DSLR out for special occasions anymore. Especially since I purchased the 10-100 VR Lens. An amazing lens by any account.

I just read a review in the Wall Street Journal online, and it rated Alexa poorly against the competitors.

I read the review and agree with some of what the reviewer had to say. But then again it is obvious this reviewer does not know how to work Alexa very well. Most would agree that Wikipedia is a vast store house of the world's knowledge. All one has to say is, "Alexa Wikipedia Hank Snow or Wikipedia the Golden Gate Bridge" or hundreds of thousands of other Wikipedia entries and Alexa will find them for you. She has never failed me yet. Granted she is a work in progress, but I think you have to own her to truly understand her capabilities.
