Flying with camera in carry-on.
Planning to fly to Phoenix this Fall and take my basic gear in a small shoulder bag - body, 2 lenses, extra battery, charger, SD card, small stuff. Anything I should be concerned about, other than somebody grabbing my gear?
Buy some good neoprene sleeves, bags or wraps. Pack it in a grungy backpack. Nobody will try to grab it.

I flew in and out of Phoenix in March with a camera bag and my tripod and 200-500 lens in my roll on. No issues.Have fun
As long as the bag is of a size to qualify for carry on, you are fine.

I generally travel with a briefcase that fits under the seat in front of me AND a small bag that holds a body and two lenses, which they classify as a "personal item", like a purse or handbag on most airlines. The very bottom tier tickets may not allow this, so you should check if you plan to try it.
If I really have to bring more gear I put the least expensive items in a checked bag, along with one of my Billingham 335s, which can be compressed to fit in an ordinary "pilot size" rollaway. I know there's a risk in that, but so far so good, and truthfully I have never lost a single checked bag over hundreds of flights. That's why I carry insurance.

You will need to have the protective cover on your extra battery.

You will be fine. But, if your really worried about it, call the airline.
All batteries must be in your carry on luggage.
Last time I flew out of JFK, they wanted cameras and batteries out of the carryon and in the bin for examination. Make sure you have your batteries together in the same ziplock bag.
The smaller the bag, the better. Overhead storage is hard to come by after Group 5 seating and people today have little-to-no regard for other people's stuff.

Li-Ion also need contacts covered. I carry mine in a think tank battery holder

No problems,I did that when we flew to Mexico for our Granddaughter’s destination wedding, just keep a close eye on that bag under you seat or in the above compartment!
Nope--nothing. I do that every time I fly.
