I had both of eyes done back this past June. I do have glaucoma also and was on crops twice a day. I was really freaking out over this as I kept telling them that I love my cameras and taking pictures. They assured me all would be just fine and I could continue to take my pictures. So WHY am I writing well it is to tell you that when they give you the odds you think not me. Well my both eyes are messed up they have like a hazy over them and I keep wiping them like I was a kid with sleepy men in them. They tell me my vision is now 20/20 and my readers are a 1.5 from a 2.5. All of the drops they have given me to try have not helped at all. The worse part of it is no one can give me a correct answer to what the hell is wrong with them or if they can be fixed. My glaucoma pressure is down to 16 in both eyes and they have taken me off the drops for now. Wish I had never had them done ever day that I open my eyes.

Yike! How do they explain the haze?

A year after my cataract surgery, I experienced some creeping blurriness. My doctor was well aware of this possibility, saying it was common in 9 or 10 % of cases. The capsule holding the new plastic lens thickens after surgery and becomes cloudy. She did a Yag capsulotomy -- a special laser treatment used to fix this. It is a simple, commonly performed procedure which is very safe. No more blurriness!

Thank you for cooling my apprehension. My primary care dr is suggesting I go for an evaluation...at 83, my day will come. Yes, I know it is not like my Aunt who in the late 1940s with sandbags around her head ... today more like a drive-in restaurant... fast food.... done quickly

It is the most frequently done surgery in the USA. The lasers have made it quick and painless and, as others have noted, it makes a big difference. I am 78 and had mine done 2 years ago.

By telling me they want to do some kind of laser thing. Believe me I have typed this into search on the web every way I know how and can’t find the answer. Now I wish I just gave up night driving and not go through this. They have said my tear ducks were clogged took drops NOTHING happened. Then they gave me clear eyes NOTHING changed. Still feels like matter in my eye that I need to rub out. I am sooooooo scared to let anyone go near them again. I love my camera and taking pictures way to much.

I would love to wake up and go just one day without that feeling. I wonder if that will get rid of this.

I have early stage age related macular degeneration and the beginning of cataracts both diagnosed about 2 years ago. I am 71 now. My eye Dr. started me taking AREDS 2, an eye vitamin, as soon as I was diagnosed and so far neither problem has advanced and there might even be a slight improvement in the macular. The vitamin is actually for the macular degeneration but in my case it seems to have slowed the progression of both. I definitely will have cataract surgery when it’s time if the macular degeneration is under control. If you’re not familiar with macular degeneration, there is an area at the back of the eye called the macular, and if begins to degenerate, you gradually lose your central vision and have to use your peripheral vision to see and eventually lose your eyesight.

Really sorry to hear that, and a bit nervous myself.

My wife has macular degeneration as well. Completely controlled by pharmaceuticals. Glad to hear it worked out for you.

Wow! I had my left cataract removed today and it's amazing how much brighter EVERYTHING is! So I looked at some of my favorite shots and what a change. The difference between looking with my right eye vs the left eye is amazing. My calibrated monitor is now much brighter and whiter. Like going from f/16 to f/4 with color correction.

If you have cataracts and like to take photos, get your eyes fixed. Your photos will look much, much better. Next week they remove the right cataract and I just may have to reprint all my wall hangings.

My Dad had his cataracts removed from both eyes when he was around 85... and no longer needed glasses to drive! (He still scared the hell out of us though.)

I had mine done last Summer, and I am very happy with the result. I need "readers" now, no big deal. Except for the "crazy" eye drop regimen it was a cakewalk. Enjoy the view, Bobnewnan.

I was terrified at the thought of someone messing with my eyes. When they did the surgery they had to give me more anesthesia than usual, this was last fall. Today, I still don't want anyone to mess with my eyes, but for the first time since I was 28 yeasr old , I do not have a restriction on my drivers license. Miracles do happen!

My driver's licenses came out of the box with restrictions. Now at 75 I have NONE. My cataract surgeries were combined with a more complicated procedure to treat anther problem as well. My eyesight as well as my "vision" have changed dramatically.

Oh by the way, as time marches on, often hearing loss occurs. I have aids and I can hear the birds who I thought deserted my neighborhood.
