Wow! I had my left cataract removed today and it's amazing how much brighter EVERYTHING is! So I looked at some of my favorite shots and what a change. The difference between looking with my right eye vs the left eye is amazing. My calibrated monitor is now much brighter and whiter. Like going from f/16 to f/4 with color correction.

If you have cataracts and like to take photos, get your eyes fixed. Your photos will look much, much better. Next week they remove the right cataract and I just may have to reprint all my wall hangings.

Congratulations, it is an amazing procedure and you just wonder at the clarity. I had both eyes done during the same operation a few years back and I was floored by the difference!

Enjoy your new vision!

+1.
I had one done about a month ago. The next one will be done in april.
The main thing I noticed was that there were a lot more cars on the road!
(just kidding).

Thank you for cooling my apprehension. My primary care dr is suggesting I go for an evaluation...at 83, my day will come. Yes, I know it is not like my Aunt who in the late 1940s with sandbags around her head ... today more like a drive-in restaurant... fast food.... done quickly

I was terrified at the thought of someone messing with my eyes. When they did the surgery they had to give me more anesthesia than usual, this was last fall. Today, I still don't want anyone to mess with my eyes, but for the first time since I was 28 yeasr old , I do not have a restriction on my drivers license. Miracles do happen!

Bob:
Insidious how cataracts creep up on you. I too was really amazed when the Doctor told me that I had them on both eyes. Like you, I was REALLY Amazed at the change after having just one eye done. I ran around looking at things with the good eye open and the other shut. I couldn't believe the DIFFERENCE!

Now for the second part of my story. I really am squeamish about having ANYTHING getting too close to my eyes.
1. If you request it, they will give you a mild sedative - goodbye being squeamish.
2. Your head is gently and comfortably restrained.
3. Your eye is numbed - no you won't feel a thing.
4. All you will see is a white light.
5. All you will hear is someone reminding you to look straight ahead.
6. The procedure lasts just a few minutes.
7. They will apply an eye patch, give you (and your driver) a lollipop, and send you on your way, grin.

After a few weeks and they are sure that the first eye has healed and good-to-go they will "lather-rinse-and-repeat" on the remaining eye.

OK, I lied about the lollipop, but steps one through seven pretty well sums up the process and my experience.

It's not at all like that colonoscopy that you have been putting off.
You don't spend twenty-four plus hours drinking a horrible brew and camping out in close proximity to a restroom preparing for a procedure that will rob you of ANY dignity that you may have once had. No grin here folks.

Kidding aside, I am a veteran of both procedures and I believe that both should be pursued with vigor.
One literally opened my eyes and the other saved my life.
Thanks for listening to my (informative?) rant,
JimmyT Sends
PS: Remember, you didn't scrimp on that NikConSon F0.95, 18-3000mm zoom lens
Please have your eyes checked!

As a side note: I had colon cancer in 2011. A lack of colonoscopy cost me 4' of colon, not pleasant. GET THE COLONOSCOPY!!

Three days after cataract surgery on my left eye, I experienced a total retina detachment in that eye.
That can happen.

Both my eyes were done 90 days ago .. cataracts removed .. and permanent life time IOL ., interocular lenses implanted ... the result was an eye opener ... everything til now is still so bright ...M eye pad is too bright ..and my telephone ..and the tv ...I can drive with sunglasses on at nite ...where I could hardly drive at nite without sunglasses ..

As a result .., all my photo editing has changed ..and one big difference .., when I put on my readers to view my Ipads or Laptops ...everything looks so much bigger ...

Outside it was a $8,900 operation as one of my lifetime inserted lenses was a bitorical lens to correct an astigmatism .., with Kaiser ..I paid like $1200 out of pocket for everything... I was lucky .. the Director of Optimology for Kaiser Oahu did the surgery .., both eyes 10 min apart ... I now see like I did in my 20’s and I’ll be 74 next month ..

I am so thankful...
