I often feel like I'm paying for my landline just so scammers and robocallers have somewhere to call. My family now calls on my cellphone instead.

I get an amazing number of robo calls. Pressing "2" opt out does no good. Frustrating!!!

Hmmm - free for landlines - not so for mobile...

Nomorobo is very effective - the free version has cut our robocalls on my home phone by 90+%, If your phone provider supports it. They have a database of robocallers (which you can add to), and if it detects a call from any of those numbers it intercepts the call with a single ring. My wife and I smile every time the phone rings just once. I may start purchasing the $1.99 per month version for my cellphone, since the robocallers are calling it multiple times per day.

Yep, I made it to the khakis - even had the pleasure of the blue water initiation in the Med... I was aircrew in P3's, S3's, H3's and ships company on the USS Saratoga and the USS Kitty Hawk... Stationed both coasts - lots of good memories...

I stopped giving. One bad apple, or one shoe bummer screws up everything.

Good that you caught them. Never give a credit card number to anyone who called you!

Here in Northern Va. I get the police association related calls. I ask if the person is a policeman - answer - no. I ask how much of the donation goes to the police and how much goes to the marketing company.

Answer - 85% to the marketing company and 15% to the police. My reply - good-by. These folks are dishonest and out to make money for themselves. Buyer beware!!

I just tell them I donate to my local police by paying my property tax

I just received a phone call from an organization calling itself “Homes for Veterans,” asking for a donation for veterans. Being a veteran myself I said sure. They wanted my credit card information but I said mail me the information, however they were insistent. So I asked “What organization is this?” and they hung up.
There are a lot of scams out there directed at Veterans, so be careful. This call came from a 360 area code which is the western side of Washington State, the Seattle area. (caveat emptor) Seamus
I just received a phone call from an organization ... (show quote)

Most likely it didn’t even come from the 360 area code. With the technology that these bullshut artists have, they could be calling you from anywhere, and showing your caller ID a 360 area code. I get quite. Few from society for “retired policemen.” Some of these clowns get histile if you don’t comply with their requests. Oh, if only I had the technology to find the actual number they were calling from...

I just tell them my dad is not home and hang up. Stopped on the phone scams and probably a few good ones in the process but I just refuse to speak with them.

When the first statement is “we thank you for your past support” that is my red flag of warning.
