Hi, wondering whether any Nikon members who have both books, or know the contents of both, can advise whether a novice seeking to thoroughly learn the D7200 would benefit at the outset from BOTH Steve Perry's Exposure & Metering book and his Nikon AF Systems book? As a beginner who hasn't delved into AF modes at all yet, I wondered whether the Exposure & Metering book would do for a while.
I know ordinarily I could buy one now, one later but in 8 short weeks I'll be on the ocean with no internet access for weeks at a time. So if the AF-specific book is for much more advanced folk, I could wait & get it at its latest version a year or so down the road (ocean!) when I know what I'm doing a little better. But if the AF book is essential from the outset then I'd be best to get both now. That's the question I guess.
Thanks, Dione, Seward, Alaska
Hi Dione:
I have both books and believe you would derive benefit from both. If you're seeking to thoroughly learn your 7200 and get the best photos from it, it will help to understand the nuances of Nikon's focusing system. Steve starts with the basics in both books and I find them very understandable and they have helped me a lot with getting the most out of my D500. If you are going to have weeks at a time with no internet - this might be a great time to read these books and put the information to good use. Definitely not a waste of time or money.
Steve Perry is a Nikon expert. He write in a down to earth, straight forward manner that makes everything clear and easy to understand and master. If you really want to learn about your Nikon camera and get the most out of it you could not get a better teacher than Steve Perry. He hosts what is known s Backcountry Gallery an on line resource that will also assist you.
He is the best resource you will find. Get BOTH books and use them over and over again.
Good luck.
I have both of Steve's books you mention and recommend them as a valuable resource.
Download both and take advantage of your time on the ocean (if you have time to spare) to expose yourself to the wealth of information available.
You WON'T be disappointed and I'm sure you will find yourself referring back to them time and time again. His style is great for planting things in the back of your mind that, even if you don't realize it immediately, will serve you well as you explore photography and your Nikon.
Yes I have both books! You will find that you will get every upgrade to the books that you buy. It is a great investment into your world of Nikon. If you are on a trip on the ocean and it is not your first then maybe hiding in your room will be a good but you will miss out on the other fun of a cruise. If a virus outbreak occurs your all set to hide away with great books.
Hi Dione,
They are really good books and everything is well explained.
The latest ones which include focus stacking are really good. You will not regret using them .
Buy em.... you wont be disappointed and they dont really overlap.
I have both books and would recommend both! His site contains much valuable information.
All of Steveβs books are great! I have all of them and they come with free upgrades

My vote also for both plus I would get the E-book on Wildlife photography if you enjoy that type of photography. Steve's books are comprehensive and easy to read with great pictures and illustrations. He also throws a bit of his sense of humor into it with plenty of his corny comparisons which I find hilarious.
Definitely! The price is good, and so is the info.
I have a Nikon d90 it is not up to date with the cameras being sold today. My question is would these books help me with d90 since they donβt have the new features as the newer cameras.
