The Duke got robed.
One day at work we got on the subject of John Wayne. When I said I didn't care for him the rest of the mob jumped all over me calling me anti-American, a commie, an idiot, moron, etc. That being the case and knowing UHHers can be just as ruthless, I will refrain from saying anything about Marion except that I think he was one of the greatest actors who ever appeared in the movies.
Yeah, sure he was.
Now I see why there were so many comments about John Wayne and a robe. I just noticed that in the title the OP said "robed" instead of "robbed". Duh .

show quote)
Marlon Brando was a great actor. Indeed.

I was referring to Marion, as in Marion Robert Morrison aka John Wayne, not Marlon Brando. But Brando is a good actor. I liked him in "The Appaloosa" and other films.

I just think they didn't want to an award a guy whos real name was Marion.

I still enjoy watching ANY of the 'Duke's' films.

Never liked the dude, so I could care less
Irrespective of his movies, John Wayne was no hero. He did everything he could to avoid serving in WWII.
One of the worst actors ever not to mention a racist.

This is true, though... I liked a lot of his movies, but honestly, he played John Wayne in every one of them!
Then you would have to say the same about Jack Nicholson.
In every single film he’s been in, Jack is always... Jack.
And the same for Anthony Hopkins, always Hopkins. I consider John, Jack and Anthony three of the best who ever existed Period.

There are good actor and actresses who play roles that reflect their own characters. These are not usually as recognized as those who subsume their character into their parts. I liked John Wayne, but could always see that the roles he played were a part of his own personality.
I disagree with what you said, just look at "High Noon" that movie was made great by the editor, correction the second editor, the first just could not CUT it. (Pun intended)

America needs more devoted patriots like John Wayne!
I have never seen a bad movie from him!
He may have been a patriot but also a draft dodger who really couldn’t act to save his soul,,,

I agree... Another one is Clint Eastwood... Some great movies, but always the same character!

Didn’t he wear a robe, of sorts, in “Genghis Khan”? One of Hollywood’s greatest achievements in casting?
Yeah, that was a masterpiece alright.
