My problem is what is the definition of Landscape---I know we are a bit loose with that but still...

My Favorite shot of the year is a double exposure that I planned with a sky plotting app on my phone and then carried out in Smoky Mountain NP in early July. The shot required a 1.5 mile hike carrying light stands, tripod and camera gear The first shot I used flash and yellow gels to light the cabin and a get the foreground with he cabin and the trees (at about 8:30 p.m.) the second was taken at about 1 a.m. when the Milky Way rose above the cabin and required a 15 second exposure. I had to scare off a bear who wanted me to move my tripod between shots but other than that... The image is rendition of John Oliver would have seen from his front porch inthe 1850's when this cabin was built. I lightened the image to show here since my images seem darker in the HOG

The more traditional landscape was taken after a storm in Acadia NP in Maine in April. It was 27 degrees, the wind was blowing and it was just bitter cold climbing down the rocks to the water's edge. I liked the little bit of light that hit the house on the high cliff and the way the long exposure swirled the water.

Which ever one qualifies is my official submission. That is my story and I'm sticking to it.

I would be hard pressed to choose between the two. If forced, the cabin shot because of the extra work involved.

Thank you. It is fun having to make a tough decision.

Thanks David! As I mentioned, the birds are "artistic license" To the degree that my half-baked idea came out of the oven, I imagined a sky/tree scene (that's why I vertically flipped the orientation). I doubt I have the skill to properly distort them to make them part of a reflection & shadow scene, but it's a great thought - one I'll add to my challenge list.

Linda;

With your images, you can take all the artistic license you want, because the final result is just amazing.

Hi. How would you like to share your favourite landscape shot from 2018. Your favourite may not be your technically best shot, but it'll be interesting to see shots selected on the basis of our own preferences.

I like this shot because it responded well to the PP I gave it (not always the case ), it's my favourite type of scenic and it has the basic ingredients (foreground, mid-field and
distance) plus a distinctive subject, some natural framing and exceptional lighting.

This was taken in July at Galveston Tx. My first attempt at a sunrise, in manual mode, with an NP grad filter. Lots of firsts that morning.
Page 3 - this is hugely pleasing to me and much of the reason is the angle of the shoreline and waves. Often sunset out to sea photos have the shoreline parallel to the bottom of the frame. The birds are lagniappe

Thanks R.G. for asking. My most favorite landscape of 2018 was taken on a trip to the Theodrore Roosevelt National Park. I feel best about this one for the year as age is really slowing me down. RBorud
