I took two photo travels this year. The first was to Costa Rica, where I got a lot of good shots, but none I would classify as landscapes. The other was to Dolly Sods Wilderness (West Virginia), which is ALL landscape.

Here are some from that trip. Whoops, #2 is Lindy Point, near Blackwater Falls, WV. Same trip, though. You don't want to know where I was standing to take the shot!

I can see why that would be a magic moment for you.

I think you managed to capture the character of the landscape.

Just Fred, I like #2 best.

FWIW, in my "choice" thread, the Lone Cypress appears to be the majority favorite:

My two favorites from 2018 were of the "Judges Shack" in Island Beach State Park, NJ.

Yes it was. Especially since I had just gotten to bed less than 3 hours before. So when the lodge concierge called and said “ The mountain is available for viewing”, I was barely able to get just a few shots off before the glow disappeared into the morning light.
This next one is my favorite from Palm Springs of Big Bear and Mt San Antonio. The morning after a winter storm. I really loved the windmills showing at the base of the range.
Taken with a canon lens 70-300 version1. Hoping to get another this winter with my 100-400 L

I'm getting a distinct "sense of place" from these.

For anybody that knows how big those windmills are they will do a good job of giving a sense of scale. Usually it's the windmills that do the towering.

My problem is what is the definition of Landscape---I know we are a bit loose with that but still...

My Favorite shot of the year is a double exposure that I planned with a sky plotting app on my phone and then carried out in Smoky Mountain NP in early July. The shot required a 1.5 mile hike carrying light stands, tripod and camera gear The first shot I used flash and yellow gels to light the cabin and a get the foreground with he cabin and the trees (at about 8:30 p.m.) the second was taken at about 1 a.m. when the Milky Way rose above the cabin and required a 15 second exposure. I had to scare off a bear who wanted me to move my tripod between shots but other than that... The image is rendition of John Oliver would have seen from his front porch inthe 1850's when this cabin was built. I lightened the image to show here since my images seem darker in the HOG

The more traditional landscape was taken after a storm in Acadia NP in Maine in April. It was 27 degrees, the wind was blowing and it was just bitter cold climbing down the rocks to the water's edge. I liked the little bit of light that hit the house on the high cliff and the way the long exposure swirled the water.

Which ever one qualifies is my official submission. That is my story and I'm sticking to it.

This was taken in July at Galveston Tx. My first attempt at a sunrise, in manual mode, with an NP grad filter. Lots of firsts that morning.
