Canon 11-24 F/4L on FF
Color, focus and corner to corner sharpness are #1 and I prefer perspective whenever I can.
I am VERY new to digital photography and have a Canon T4i. Trying to learn and understand it's capabilities, slowly. I hesitate to ask questions because my depth of photo knowledge is very low. This thread is asking for a suggestion on a go to lens and several have been suggested. My question is why were these lens chosen? The leading manufacturers have many lenses which do different things, but I don't know what these things are. Be gentle, I'm just learning, very slowly.
Always a zoom because you never know what you might need. An 18-135 on my crop and a wide-105 on my full frame.

I keep at least one camera (preset for most parameters) on a nearby shelf set to allow me to grab it and go quickly in case of an unexpected photo opportunity. Have mixed feelings about a zoom vs. just a 50mm (FF) or 35mm (Crop). What do you favor?

We are a global community, living in varied environments, which could dictate the type of photos we take - and the lenses we might use to take them. "Grab and go" for me could be the squirrel sitting on my fence. It might mean a hurricane in the colonies.

On my 80D, I have the 15-85mm lens attached and ready. If I grab the M50, I have the 18-150mm
I have found that I am at my best when I have only one camera and 1prime lens . Currently a 24mm f2.8 on my D700
Grab and go for me is my SX 60; I can do about anything I need with it, including shooting from the road.

Canon 28-300 on Canon FF 6D preset to f/8, 1/320th and auto ISO, switch to manual and adjust as necessary on the scene.
Olympus 14-150 II is my go to. Not heavy, excellent IQ, weatherproof, good range
Primary carry camera - Leica m240/35mm f2
Secondary carry (bag w/2 cameras)
D850/28-70mm f2.8
F4/50mm f1.4
18-105 on my D7100 unless there is something specific I have been waiting to get a shot of.
24-85 (lightest), 28-70 (heaviest) or street sweeper (24-120) on my D600, depending on where I'm going and how much lugging around I feel up to, and how much potential banging around the kit might get into while out and about. Usually the 24-85 has been living on the camera in between gigs, but this year, I might start carrying the 28-70 around more, its IQ is outstanding. Which means, yes, I might have to use a separate bag and lug the 300/4 around too, just in case... :-)
1st choice, Canon 5DIV - with Canon 28-300mm f3.5-5.6
2nd choice, Canon 6D - with Canon 24-70mm f2.8
Very rarely do I change them from one body to the other.
Usually, I only remove them for cleaning the lens or the sensor.
Good question
