My DSLR type cameras with interchangable lenses are too cumbersome to take with me when I'm out shopping or doing chores etc. I've been interested for some time in getting a pocketable camera that I can drop into my shirt pocket and always have with me. Pocketability is , however only one of my "needs". I also require a camera capable of high IQ, preferably shooting RAW, with an optical (not digital) zoom from a modest wide angle to a modest telephoto. (35-105 FF equiv?) A viewfinder is a necessity since I frequently cannot see the image on the back screen LCD when outside. Adequate weather sealing is also highly desirable although total waterproofing is not necessary. Is there a camera out there that fits my "needs"?. NOTE: A cell phone camera is not an option.

Try looking at the Olympus TG-5. Relatively small, rugged, waterproof, 25-100 zoom in 35mm terms, and affordable. Also, Panasonic has put out a tough camrera (SF-7?) that might be worth looking at.

The latest model of the Sony RX100M6 has a 24-200 zoom, and will fit nicely into your shirt pocket. IF you would be happy with a 24-70 zoom, you could save considerably on an RX100M5

My, you must have HUGE shirt pockets! That's a lot of stuff to get into a tiny camera. I find that my RX100III is more weight and bulk than I want in a shirt pocket (though I can carry it in a jean pocket), but, have learned to tolerate a little Fujifilm XQ1 on a lanyard (cameras like to jump out of unbuttoned shirt pockets) ~ (however, it has a tiny 2/3" sensor & no viewfinder). You might take a look at the Sony HX90V, although the weight saving over the RX100 is not really all that great.

Really?? Are you thinking of a different Lumix model than the ZS100? It is definitely small enough for a pocket. Though I don't think any of the mentioned cameras really fit well into a small shirt pocket, including the Sony RX100 models.
The Sony Rx100 series meets your needs (if you add the optional EVF). I'm still using my Mk II, and very happy with it. That being said, I may soon buy the Mk IV, but waiting to see the still unavailable Canon SX 70.

Both camera's deliver sharp images. I like the pop up viewfinder and the tilt up screen. I used the tilt up screen to take the following photo along the Maine coast. Sony HX90V.
