My DSLR type cameras with interchangable lenses are too cumbersome to take with me when I'm out shopping or doing chores etc. I've been interested for some time in getting a pocketable camera that I can drop into my shirt pocket and always have with me. Pocketability is , however only one of my "needs". I also require a camera capable of high IQ, preferably shooting RAW, with an optical (not digital) zoom from a modest wide angle to a modest telephoto. (35-105 FF equiv?)
A viewfinder is a necessity since I frequently cannot see the image on the back screen LCD when outside. Adequate weather sealing is also highly desirable although total waterproofing is not necessary. Is there a camera out there that fits my "needs"?. NOTE: A cell phone camera is not an option.

Hey Photo, I doubt you are going to find a "pocketable" camera that has every single one of your preferred features. However, can I suggest you take a look at the Panasonic ZS series. I have both the ZS50 and ZS60 and they come remarkably close to having all the features that you desire.

Good luck in your search.

If all you want is a pocket camera why not just use a smart phone. They are about as handy as you can get when you need a picture taken.

It seems you didn't read the OP's criteria nor his NOTE. Try again, slowly.

Consumer Reports rated the Canon sx730 hs number one in its category (super zooms). It doesn’t do raw and no viewfinder although it has a tiltable touch screen.

Really?? Are you thinking of a different Lumix model than the ZS100? It is definitely small enough for a pocket. Though I don't think any of the mentioned cameras really fit well into a small shirt pocket, including the Sony RX100 models.

I have a DMC-ZS100 and it does NOT fit my shirt pocket, but does fit my jacket pocket.

No viewfinder, tiny 1/2.3" sensor

If you want a truly shirt pocket sized camera that has all, or at least most of your requirements, then the Sony RX100III, IV and V will fit the bill, if a 24-70mm zoom is all you require. If you want/need more zoom, then the RX100VI fits the bill, albeit expensively. Your next choice would be the Panasonic Lumix ZS100 or 200, although they won't quite fit a shirt pocket unless it's a roomy pocket. (I have a Canon G16 that fits, snugly, in the pocket of a fishing shirt, though). The RX100xx series and the Lumix zs100 and 200 have 1" type sensors. If you want super zoom and a view finder, then look at the Sony HX90V or 99V (also shoots raw) or the Lumix ZS60 or 70. They all zoom out to 720mm and will fit in a shirt pocket. Only drawback to them is that they have a very small, 1/2.3" sensor. Not so great in low light, but otherwise very good cameras that produce very good images. One last option is the Canon G5X. Has a 1" type sensor, electronic viewfinder and zooms 24-100mm. Very good camera, but definitely won't fit in a shirt pocket, but will go in a jacket pocket or cargo pants/shorts pocket, due to the viewfinder housing on top of the camera. Any of these ought to work for you.

The RX100III is about 30% heavier than the Fuji XQ1 that I sometimes carry (in a shirt pocket). The ZS100 is even larger and heavier than the RX100xxx. My RX100III will go inta the front pockets of a pair of "relaxed fit" Wranglers, but it doesn't come outa, very easily. The ZS100 might fit a large standard trouser pocket, OK; and certainly a cargo pant pocket.

Take a look at.this one. You might find a refurbished one if money is an issue. No viewfinder but the LCD screen is excellent. Otherwise it's everything you want.

I'd second the Sony RX100 cameras. I've owned every one, selling them when a new model is released. The best of the bunch is the newest, the M6. Packing a 24-200mm lens and a one-inch sensor is a 10-ounce, 1" deep package that can make enlargements you can hang on your walls has never been by anyone else.

I carry my Sony HX90V in my pocket all the time. Mainly bought it because it does have optical viewfinder, long zoom.

For me, your HX90V would make more sense than the RX100's for my SHIRT pockets, simply because of the weight and "depth" (thickness) difference.

"NOTE: A cell phone camera is not an option." He said no to a cell phone.
