Really? I didn't know there is a computer around now that reads floppies.

You can buy a floppy drive that attaches via USB.

Toshiba 500 GB external drive, about 1/8 full, mostly dng, also some jpg older files, plus C drive on my computer, 445 gb, of which 200 gb is in my "Pictures" folder, mostly jpg. Some of the Toshiba is backed up to the computer, some of the computer is backed up to the Toshiba. Anyone have a spare SSD 4TB drive to spare or a new computer?

I have 5 systems running at home. 2 windoze 7 systems, 1 Fedora Linux server, 1 Fedora Linux Workstation, and 1 iMac. the Windoze and Fedora systems each have 2-2TB drives with the second drive being used for backups. The iMac has 2 external 2TB drives with one being used for photographs and one being used for backups. The reason for selecting 2TB drives is that's the max Windoze 7 can use without complicating things. So, I kept it uniform throughout the network.

3 TB drive, 50% full. Contains all of my photos which are backed up on three drives of equal size.

Thanks for everyone's responses. It has been very helpful in unexpected ways. I am now considering whether to go back to 3-1/2 floppies, which have a much more welcoming name - brings a beagle to mind - than hard drive or solid state drive.

Seriously, the variety of answers is fascinating. I am rethinking what I do.
The original motivation was the syndicated column, "On Computers," by Bob and Joy Schwabach, possibly the longest-lived column continuously published in the world...it began in the early 1980s. In a recent column Bob Schwabach questioned whether anyone except those collecting movies has any need for terabyte drives. I wrote and described my need - I use a 3 TB primary drive for just photos and it is half full - and suggested that there is a world of serious photographers out there who need drives that large. Although this is not a scientific survey (because the respondents are self-, not randomly-, selected), you have supported my claim. I will report this to the Schwabachs and I guarantee that they will find it just as fascinating as I do, especially the comments about floppies! Looking at you, royden.

Do you have an actual - not Apple - time machine to retrieve them from the '80s?

I have a 1TB external drive for my photos and certain other files, and it's about 40% full right now. I periodically archive them to a 500MB external drive. A great many of my photos are also loaded to Flickr (44,000 of them), and some of the more recent ones are still on my laptop, too (1TB internal drive).
