2ea 1 T ssd with a copy on two other 1T ssd
I have a 1TB external drive for my photos and certain other files, and it's about 40% full right now. I periodically archive them to a 500MB external drive. A great many of my photos are also loaded to Flickr (44,000 of them), and some of the more recent ones are still on my laptop, too (1TB internal drive).
A 5-10 terabyte is fine but remember the heat factor with large drives. Remember to keep the drives cool.and keep large drives out of the computer in external cases. I have a lot of 500gig drives that are out of the computer. i don't trust very large drives i have repaired many computers with failed hard drives in the Terabyte area. But that is just my opinion.

I added an 8" floppy drive to my S-100 bus computer. The floppy drive cost $1300.
Probably can get some old tape drives if you look hard enough. Look for the ones that went floor to ceiling with the big reel-to-reel tapes!

Thanks for everyone's responses. It has been very helpful in unexpected ways. I am now considering whether to go back to 3-1/2 floppies, which 'have a much more welcoming name - brings a beagle to mind - than hard drive or solid state drive. ....
I would never go back to a 3-1/2" floppy drive. Sooner or later I had problems with every one I used. And when the old computers I still have won't turn on anymore, I won't be able to read the discs, anyway. I do have some 5"-ers but heaven only knows if they're still readable. From what I understand the SSD's are more stable than what media we've used til now, except for film and paper. I wish the storage lasted as long as the film negatives I have that are from the 1920's and many of the paper prints from the 1890's and beyond.
you would be better with the enhanced storage of the 7 inch floppies.
Two 8TB drives plus 6TB Time machine
Two 4TB's. Second one is a back-up for the first one.
I also have two 2TB's that are now full.
I have a good question. I too have many drives. 2 tb to 6 tb.
2 always by the computer. The others safely away at home.
I was wondering what alternative I had for the few clients I have original material.
I thought of DVDs but how long will they be around?
Not interested in spending lot of money on this.
Thanks.
