The sweet deal is to live in a rental on the southern border of Washington. You don't pay property tax and there is no income tax. Then you do your shopping in Oregon where there is no sales tax.

If Kentucky is like most states with sales tax, you have been required all along to pay a use tax, which is the same as the sales tax, on out of state purchases, and you've been evading that tax. It's difficult for states to enforce the use tax, which is why they wanted the out of state merchants to collect it and now that is the law.

I don't know of any state in which you have to pay sales tax but you don't have to pay use tax when buying out of state. It's just that before they couldn't enforce it.

As for property tax, if you pay rent (as Ragu used to say) it's in there.

That's liable to change in the near future. That's a given here ;)

I just opened up my B&H shopping cart and saw that Sales Tax had been added. B&H has no physical presence in Kentucky and I have ordered tax free in the past. When did this change take place? Are there any other large online retailers that still don't charge sales tax?

Buy local. Have your local shop beat B&H pricing.

I’m guessing if you own a house in Washington you would pay property tax?

I've been getting email from eBay for months about this. Having to pay an extra 5 - 10% on top of the purchase price is not going to help their business. The politicians know better, though. With all that extra tax money, we will have great roads, safe bridges, and better living in general. Aren't you glad you elected them?!

Good in theory, but local stores don't do the volume of B&H, so they have to charge a bit more.

Colonial Photo and Hobby in Orlando will match their price. I sell pro video audio and lighting. I can match or beat them any day of the week. Dealers have room to adjust sales price unless they are selling discontinued items they bought a container full. Just saying.

New Hampshire has no sales or income tax.

It all depends on what state you live in. Under the new ruling, states can force retailers to charge tax if they wish.

There are state with either no sales tax or no income tax but if a state collect sales tax the law also requires that you must pay use tax when buy online. The law has always been that way.
