I guess I'm confused. Why are people paying for music that is free? I bought a Bluetooth FM transmitter for $17.00. my phone is hands free and I carry 9000+ oldies and good old rock and roll on my phone. Never had a problem with music on the road and we do a lot of traveling. Just got back from Ohio. A 3000 mile trip and never got past 1/4 of my music. I'm a serious music person.

It's because people want music without the advertising.

Thanks. I recently got a deal for a six-month subscription--knowing full well I was probably making a mistake.
I am now warned what I will face in six months.

Call them, tell them you’re old and retired and on a fixed income and can’t afford it and want to cancel. They’ll mess around with you for fifteen minutes or so, but stick to your guns and they’ll give you a much better deal. They always do--this works for me.

Today I had great difficulty canceling my SiriusXM subscription because their employees are required to prevent you from doing so at all costs.

Today I received a letter from SiriusXM Radio informing me that my annual subscription was about to automatically renew at a cost of $228.53 for their minimum service. Last year I paid just under $100! I called to cancel because I am retired and I am no longer in my car long enough at one time to make it worth even a token amount (I have driven less than 2100 miles since January 1) and that is absolutely true.

The first person I talked to didn't have the ability or authority to cancel it and tried to, over and over again, convince me that I should not cancel (10 minutes of my time). I kept telling her, "...No! Please just cancel it...." several times and finally asked to speak to a supervisor. She argued with me some more for several minutes and then transferred me to a non-supervisor who proceeded to repeat the process for a full thirty-minutes. Time after time I told her I did not want any more sales pitches to just cancel my order. I finally told her that I would not renew my subscription and that if she did not immediately cancel it, I would report SiriusXM to both state officials and the Federal Trade Commission. After a few more sales pitches over my protests, I made it clear to her that I would never again do business with Sirius and that I would let everyone know about how I was treated. She finally reluctantly relented and processed the cancelation.

I talked to my wife afterwards and she reminded me that the same thing happened to her when she tried to cancel her subscription last year. This was obviously their company policy that was being followed.

Consider this a warning before you agree to even a trial offer from SiriusXM.

I too have Sirius Xm.. and have navigated their issues. I had it on two cars and a portible radio. I like the service but they were unreasonable in pricing.. so I cancelled. after about 6 months of no service, Sirius sent me a "deal" for 6 months at half price.. so I puchased the 6months at half price and added the following 6monts at full price. That will be up in Febuary and we will see. It's nice in the car... but don't really need it in the house or anywhere else. If I cancel, I will probably get another "half price" offer in a few months.

I guess you don't ever go anywhere.
Cell phone availability is very limited across the country.
So it would be worse than regular radio.
We have Sirius/XM for more than music that is pre-recorded.
News, Comedy shows, live sports and other live broadcast.
You cannot get that across the nation at all on cell service.

Got a trial when I purchased my Honda. On two occasions I went to cancel because I only listen to one station and then only about once a month if that. On both occasions they offer me a deal I could not refuse (I do like Whirlwinds). Be interesting to see what happens when the "...could not refuse" runs out.

I paid $40.35 for the next six months. I like the service; but in six months I will decide to cancel, or renegotiate for a similar deal. Thanks.

I went through a similar situation only I didn't want to cancel. I wanted a better price. I got the yearly renewal notice and they wanted the $200 or so to renew. I told them I'm not going to pay that kind of money for something that's rarely used for any length of time. After much back and forth, we finally agreed to $60 per year. That's only $5/month. A much more reasonable price.

Thank you for the posting. I was strongly considering the purchase of a SiriusXM radio for my car. Thanks to your post, I have changed my mind. If I had already subscribed, and later wanted to cancel, I would have followed these steps;
(1) Contact Sirius to cancel.
(2) If they gave me a hard time cancelling, I would notify the credit card company to stop any future payment to Sirius.
(3) If the CC company wouldn't do that, I would open a new credit card and cancel the original one.
(4) Use my call blocker to stop phone clls from Sirius.
(5) Any snail mails from Sirius would be marked "REFUSED, RETURN TO SENDER" ...Sirius would then have to pay the return postage ;)

Don't mess with us old farts!

My story as well. Easy Peasy. Clear reception where ever you go. Also, with hundreds of genres and venues to choose from, many commercial free I cannot understand why someone could not find "something to their liking"
All for $8/month

I've NEVER had a problem. I just call and say the same thing every 6 months (when my "special" is about to expire)

"I'd like to cancel service"

They ask why.

I say "it's too expensive"

They try 10 different things to keep my service which after every suggestion I say "no thank you..it's still too expensive" and I say "unless you can give me the exact same price, please cancel now"

They always come through.

The call lasts about 15 minutes once every 6 months. I've been doing it for years.

I pay $35.00 every 6 months for service.

Easy peasey.

Definitely! The easiest way is to cancel your credit card.

It's a horrible company. Over the years, they have reduced the music I can listen to for the regular subscription cost. As you said, canceling can take ages. When I subscribed years ago, they told me it cost so much a month. The next day, I found the entire year billed to my credit card.

Right now, I have a radio with a Lifetime subscription, but the antenna connection between the radio and the car cradle is not secure, so it works for a while and then stops working. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with it because I already did a $75 transfer.

At home, I listen to Pandora on my computer. I also have a Grace Internet radio which is great. There are thousands of free stations available from around the world. With a small FM transmitter, I can send the signal to radios around the house and even outside.

A clear signal works near where I live, but whenever I drive a long distance, local stations overpower XM, so I have to switch to USB or CD. I can't search for a clear channel while I'm driving. As for choice, I originally had three classical stations available. I think I'm limited to just one now - unless I want to pay more every month. If I liked rock, hip hop, rap, or country, I'd have hundreds to choose from. I listen to jazz and the 1940s station now.

If you have a legitimate agreement with a business, your CC company will not be able to break that agreement. I tried that.

Yes, you can cancel a card, but that hurts your credit rating. Ideally, the card will be up for renewal. Just don't give the new info to Sirius.
