Am I reading that right - $450 p.a. for a married couple to listen to the car radio. What gives?

I've NEVER had a problem. I just call and say the same thing every 6 months (when my "special" is about to expire)

"I'd like to cancel service"

They ask why.

I say "it's too expensive"

They try 10 different things to keep my service which after every suggestion I say "no thank you..it's still too expensive" and I say "unless you can give me the exact same price, please cancel now"

They always come through.

The call lasts about 15 minutes once every 6 months. I've been doing it for years.

I pay $35.00 every 6 months for service.

Easy peasey.

This is a very common complaint and I have had the same experience! My bank allows me to make up a virtual credit card number with an amount that I decide and an expiration date that I decide. So if I don't want to renew something like Sirius radio, or a magazine subscription they simply cannot just charge it to my card because it won't work! By the way, Sirius' exorbitant renewal fee can be talked down as soon as they realize you simply won't pay the full amount!

They must have a number of ex Readers Digest employees working for them.

We did that several times - it does work, but there were only three stations we listened to and one, Fox News, had really obnoxious commercials. We cancelled.

When your 6 months has elapsed, on the very second that happens, they will renew your subscription for 1 year, at full price. When you call to cancel, even if successful, you will end up paying for 1 month at the full price. Do yourself a favor and tell your credit card company to cancel Sirius authorization, any issues, cancel the card.

They really have a desperation business model, for good reason.

OR

You can be smart like i am and call a couple of days early and do it. Its not brain surgery.

Set a calendar reminder and forget it until then.

Today I had great difficulty canceling my SiriusXM subscription because their employees are required to prevent you from doing so at all costs.

Today I received a letter from SiriusXM Radio informing me that my annual subscription was about to automatically renew at a cost of $228.53 for their minimum service. Last year I paid just under $100! I called to cancel because I am retired and I am no longer in my car long enough at one time to make it worth even a token amount (I have driven less than 2100 miles since January 1) and that is absolutely true.

The first person I talked to didn't have the ability or authority to cancel it and tried to, over and over again, convince me that I should not cancel (10 minutes of my time). I kept telling her, "...No! Please just cancel it...." several times and finally asked to speak to a supervisor. She argued with me some more for several minutes and then transferred me to a non-supervisor who proceeded to repeat the process for a full thirty-minutes. Time after time I told her I did not want any more sales pitches to just cancel my order. I finally told her that I would not renew my subscription and that if she did not immediately cancel it, I would report SiriusXM to both state officials and the Federal Trade Commission. After a few more sales pitches over my protests, I made it clear to her that I would never again do business with Sirius and that I would let everyone know about how I was treated. She finally reluctantly relented and processed the cancelation.

I talked to my wife afterwards and she reminded me that the same thing happened to her when she tried to cancel her subscription last year. This was obviously their company policy that was being followed.

Consider this a warning before you agree to even a trial offer from SiriusXM.
Today I had great difficulty canceling my SiriusXM... (show quote)

I like Sirius/XM, don't plan on cancelling it. Hate to travel and hunt or lose stations on the road.

EXACTLY! We follow the same procedure on both of our cars and have beautiful NO-COMMERCIALS music, news and sports etc for six months for about $35 on each car.

Here's the thing.

THEY know it's a game

YOU know it's a game.

You both play it every 6 months.

YOU have your moves (they know the moves)

THEY have their moves (you know the moves)

You both play-act it out like you are supposed to.

They get a customer, you get cheap radio.

Simple.

Sorry you had an unpleasant experience. In the future, pre-paid services are paid by a credit card, simply call the credit card company and deny any charges by the company in question if you have a problem of this nature. Since you had such a difficult time with SiriusXM, I would suggest that you contact your credit card company anyway just for security.

Great suggestion! I wouldn't have thought of this....and it will certainly solve the problem.

That's why I have Pandora. About $40 per year, no ads and I get to compile the music I want to listen to.
