The B&W version looks like how the old orthochromatic films rendered reds - almost no sensitivity. I wonder if you dialed back the red channel a bit if it would lighten up a bit in the conversion to B&W. Nice photos, but I prefer the color one.

I do enjoy b/w too and maybe if this was old and weathered that would work but for this absolutely perfect barn and immaculate scene I am with everyone else. Red it is! I wonder how barns came to be red? Now it is usually the more expensive of paint colors!
