The color version holds the contrast a bit better.

The B&W version loses a lot of detail in the red. However, both versions suffer a bit of "burnout" in the sky, and I believe it probably overshadowed the barn itself, causing some slight underexposure.

Without shooting native B&W, and using the conversions in Affinity, Photoshop, etc., you have to really work on maintaining the contrast.

If I were shooting this scene on B&W film, I'd be using a yellow, or perhaps red filter to work on the contrast. Since the image is already converted to B&W, you could try different filtrations to simulate the red and yellow filters for B&W.

It has excellent composition, and the red really stands out. You may want to consider darkening the sky.

Thanks for looking. Side note: there was no sky--gray day just after a rain.

I prefer the color John. If there were more contrasting clouds in the sky, the B&W would be fantastic.

Thanks for looking, Mark--gray day, no sky. I may consider replacing it.

I think the B&W shows off your composition and framing, but as an old farm kid, nothing beats a beautiful red barn. Good job John!

Thanks, Phil. I’m partial to the red ones myself.

Take your choice.

I'm usually a black&white guy, but in this case, you need the color. >Alan
