Really, David?

I have NEVER seen a broken flip-out screen ... so, perhaps, you work in a Camera Shop - do you?

Fixed screens - to me - are annoying ... especially after I've changed, from a flip-out design ...

I like having the option to use the flip-out as a fixed screen, OR, to fold it out, when the shoot calls for it ....

I retired from Nikon.. and yes these were older (like the beginning of Nikon filp… And as I said, its my opinion.. Anything can be broken or wear out. I prefer to move my camera … by the way, I'm old school.. The ONLY time that I use live view is on timed exposures: to verify the shot. Otherwise, I use the viewfinder.. but its probably just habit. So, yes REALLY.. but you do what you want.. as I stated, its what I do and it MY habit.

Yes, Ray ... all of the Rebel "i" series, now have a flip-out touch screen ... I don't know well alternated Model Designations in other parts of the world ...

Does the 760D have the top-deck LCD? ... If so, that's called a Rebel T6s here in the US ... a very nice camera, that is, too ... the new version is called the 77D.

I love having both features, Ray - but am considering two cameras - the Nikon D7500 - which only has Touch (but, tilts, too) and the K-70 w flip-out, but no TS!

The features incorporated in both units are very enticing ... but, they both present a dilemma ...

Mine does not have a top deck LCD but my user guide says "760D/Rebel T6S." I imported it from England before the T6S was available in the U.S. because I wanted the better video and the flip screen.

Is a Touch-Screen conducive to making better pictures of buildings, or - for shooting stars, or are you better off with a flip-out screen (a la Canon) ... which of these two highly desirable features, would be more advantageous, in such shooting situations, as I have just described?

And, yes - you can have BOTH in some cameras, but, if you HAD to choose one or the other, which would prove to be a better aid - in the long run???

Obviously a flip out has more versatility.
So limited versatility or more versatility, which do you prefer.
Personally I'd go with more versatility if given the choice of the 2 options you present

I use a Nikon D500 which has both a flip out screen and touch screen. The view finder is my preference but if I want to shoot from high or low I use the flip out. The touch screen is handy if I am looking at menus. I don't use it much.

Had no idea the articulating screen on the D5000 was so limited, G ... I have both the D5300 and the D5500 ... and they both work the same as Canons.

They must have changed it, by then - obviously ... I thought the D5000 series all worked the same (until they introduced Touch on the D5500) ...

Yes, the K-1 / K-1 II are a little more expensive but, actually - it's a FF camera which costs approximately what your D500 cost ... which ain't bad!!!

The D500 is a huge step up from the D7000 series (any of them) but the most recent one - the D7500, has the same innards as the D500!!!!

So that model can't be all bad, can it? ... and it's $700 less expensive, too ... don't know much about your RX100III ... but sounds like it serves you well ...

The 7500 wasn't out yet when I bought the D500. At the time, I was considering the D750 OR the D500 and I chose the right one, because the low light capability, high ISO w/o grain (or very little), focus features are all things that are better than the D7100 I had. I thought the D850 was an upgrade to the D750 but I later learned that it was an upgrade to the D810. So, instead of buying a FF Nikon, I opted for the FF Sony mirrorless. The Sony is my travel camera; but I think I will get one or two more lenses for it.

When I bought my first DSLR, the D5000, I had looked at the comparable Canon model because my film camera was a Canon. I liked how the Nikon felt in my hand better and it was a step ahead of the Canon in features. Canon soon surpassed Nikon and back and forth....

The RX100 goes with me everywhere in my purse. For a guy, it'll fit in a small pocket. I added a small grip to it because that little bugger was slippery without it!

So, answer your own question. If YOU had to choose, would it be a touch screen or an articulating one?

Kites ... flip-out screen on the D500??

I think that's classified a Tilt Screen, isn't?

Flip-Out here - refers to a Fully Articulating screen - which not only folds out from the back, but can be twisted forward so the subject can see the composition, or just swung out to the side, and twisted - so you can do selfies ... I don't think the screen on the D500 is capable of doing that - is it, Kites?

Touch screens are handy for a whole lot more than choosing selections in the menus .... you can use the flip action to sort thru photos ...

Plus, you can close in on your composition and select certain areas you wish to accentuate ... plus you can tap the screen to shoot, too, Kites ....

Well, you see, G ... that's what I'm trying to figure out, and why I made the post ...

I have six DSLRS with Fully Articulating screens ... and two of those are also Touch screens ... two cameras I'm considering are the D7500 - you already noted - which DOES have Touch, but lacks FA ... and the Pentax K-70 ... which has FA but lacks Touch ... so, I'm trying to get an idea from UHHers - as to which they deem the most important ... of course, I'd like to have both, and perhaps I will ... with either the SL2, or the 77D, or the new 90D when available ...

If I pick up a D7500 ... that'd be for me ... the K-70, is more, or less - for my lady ... or, I might go the SL2 route for her ... still weighing it ...

On those Nikons ... think of it this way ... the D600/D610 - is more or less a beginner FX camera ... the D750 (and the 600) are both 24MP ... the D810 was 36MP ... a much more advanced FX camera ... call it semi-Pro ... whilst the D5 is the Pro FX camera ... when the D850 came along - a 46MP camera - it supplanted the D810 ... and became one step closer to the D5 ... some Pros actually prefer it OVER the D5 ... the D500 is Nikon's PRO DX camera ... an upgrade to the well-regarded D300 / D300s - a 12MP delight hatched about a decade ago ... the Prosumer DX line top dog, now - is the D7500 - which some prefer over the D7200 it replaced ... whilst others prefer the D7200, or D7100 - essentially the same camera, but for the larger buffer in the newer one. Since the D7500 adopted the smaller res sensor (20MP) of the D500 ... it knocks off a whopping 4MP from the D7100/D7200 ... which were / are 24MP. Plus those two - like the D7000 before them - also have dual card slots, a nice feature, which was abandoned by the D7500 - I guess, to cut costs. But the D500 has that - for an additional $700 ... not sure they're worth that, but, anyway ... other than that, the sensor is in every way the same, and is the same one sported by the top dog D5 - a $6500 camera ... the D850 is just about half that, and has over 3x times the res. ... Do you see the problem now, G?

The flip-out screen comes in real handy for that, doesn't it, Daryl?

So, you prefer that over Touch - do you, Daryl?

Oh I see, David ... well, then ... that explains it!!! ...

I have both Canons and Nikons with flip-out screens (60D, 4Ti, D5300, D5500) plus the slightly differently designed Fully Articulating model donned by Sony in the a77 and a77 II ... which allows for selfies to be done, with the screen either immediately above the camera, or below it ... a much better line of view ....

Not had any problems with any one of the six ... but, perhaps I'm more careful than most, David ....

Live View is neat, and probably - when shooting movies anyway ... more desirable than using the VF ... but, I prefer that way of composing, better, overall ....

Sounds like I was both right and wrong, simultaneously, huh, Ray?

So, the T6s was actually available at one time, BEFORE they added the top-deck LCD ... which is strange, as then, it isn't an "s" version - is it?

If that be the case, then it's a T6i ... which would have been listed elsewhere as a 750D ... hmmm ... more into the mire we go, huh?

Don't you just LOVE Canon's multiple designations for their products??? ... Rebel / KISS / 760D / T6i / T6s ... when does it ever end?

Well, now ... they've introduced the 77D - perhaps that'll lessen all the confusion somewhat ... after all - there is NO alias ....

Oh, I see, Kites ... I didn't know the D500 had the Fully Articulating Screen ... thought it was just Tilt ... my apologies!!!!

Okay ... then your vote would be for the Flip-Out Design rather than for Touch capability ... got it, Kites ...

Kites has it wrong. The TILT screen on the D500 only allows you to shoot pictures above or below eye level!

You DO have a dilemma!! I think if you count the votes, a movable screen of any kind trumps a touch screen!

Yes, G ... I know. But, I didn't want to upset the man. I'm aware the screen of the D500 is only Tilt, and not Fully Articulating. The problem came about because I described it as a "flip-out screen" instead of Fully Articulating - so folks would understand better what I meant. Since some Tilting Screens also "flip out" or rather "flip up" or "flip down" in some cases - and not all folks are aware of the fold-out kind of screen ... it is easy to see where the confusion would arise. But, Kites bought the D500, and owns it - for some pretty large outlay - somewhere between $1600 and $2000 depending on his attached lens of choice. So, I didn't want to insult him with my knowledge, so, I let it ride. According to Kites - the camera's screen flips "OUT" ... let it be!
