Can't take a picture without the lens! The only time I would have a camera with the body cap attached rather than a lens would be if it is in long term storage (i.e., not my current camera of choice, but one that I am hanging on to for some reason - I have some film cameras stored that way) or I am in the process of shipping it off for repair or ???

I always have a lens on my Nikon D3300, in my Camera Bag, I feel the less I allow my sensor to being exposed to possible contaminants by constantly adding and removing a lens, the longer my sensor will stay clean. I have 4 Nikon lens, (1.) Kit lens; 18-55mm (2.) 35mm (3.) 50mm (4.) 55-200mm. For Ex., I recently had my 18-55 lens on for quite a while for incidental Photos around my home, just yesterday I changed to my 50mm prime to go to a local river to create some different aspects of the "Rapids" flowing over the Rocks. As of 2 days later, that same 50mm is still on my Camera. So, my feeling is the less you expose your Camera Sensor to possible contamination, the better you will be.

I carry two bodies in my rollaboard. The lens stays on one and the other has a body cap when not in use because there is not space in the case for two cameras with lenses attached. I also carry the body cap for the camera with the lens and the rear end lens cap for the lens mounted on the camera in a pouch in the lid of the rollaboard.

Depends, if I am out shooting my bag has the body stored Separately because they fit better, I can put more in that way. If I am shooting wildlife I only use the D500 with the 200-500 attached. It leaves my house that way and stays on for months at a time. If I am going to shoot another lens then I use the second D500 for that.
I don't like to change lenses too much to lesson spots on the sensor.

No lens on body in my camera backpack unless I'm going to shoot. That way there's no chance of damaging lens mount on body if I were to drop my camera backpack.

I keep the 24-105 on the body in the backpack all the time so it is ready to use. The back pack has the other more commonly used lenses in it as well so they are handy. This then sits on the back seat easily accessible from the front.
I would have to look around to find a body cap. The only one I can think of right away is the one on the TC in the backpack.

I have cap holders on my straps, so they are always handy when needed!

We never travel with lens attached. In case we drop bag, there is no stress on lens camera connection.

Generally speaking, I remove lenses from the body when I return home and store both in their assigned storage spots on my gear shelves. If I expect I may be doing the same type of assignment I may keep a lens on a body, but I find it easier, and much better, to go through my gear checklist every time I go out. Best of luck.

What about the Lens Cap? Best to keep the Lens Cap and Body Cap together (mounted), to minimize contamination of either.

I keep my lens on the camera when out and about shooting. Traveling from point to point, lens is detached and all caps are on. I labeled my lens back caps with what lens it is, so I can easily pull the correct lens when it is face down in a rolling bag. I always put the body cap and back lens mated together back in the case or in my pocket. When I change lenses, the back caps are switched off the body cap. Mating the 2 caps together keeps the inside of each clean of dust, lint or whatever you may encounter from transferring into your camera or back lens.

Depending on the conditions, events, vacations, etc. I keep 2 bodies with lens attached for fast change.

Not even sure I know where the body cap is. Think it may be in the bag. Always lens ready.

Body cap on the D7100 and lens on the D7200. Both stored in a backpack in indoor closet.
