The only time I take the lens off when storing a camera is if it won't fit in the section.

Suggest leave the lens on the camera and take a body cap and screw it into the lens cap and store these in your camera bag.

Around my house. One camera is on the Tamron 150-600 on the Gitzo with gimbal mount. The other camera will have, most likely, the Sony 70-300 but could have the Ziess 55 or Minolta 50 macro and be in my bag ready to grab and remove lens cap, turn on, and shoot.
