It may be a Coincidence but it seems as Nikon's Mirrorless System official announcement approaches Sony has been offering more and more sales, trade in's and discounts of various mirrorless camera's. Hummmmmmm.
Duh, that is partly because Sony is due to announce two new cameras, the A6700 and the A7SIII which will have class-leading features and will get hosts of new sales. Sony long predicted Canon and Nikon's entry into the fullframe mirrorless market. As the world leader in image sensor tech and manufacturing, I have no doubt that Sony will answer any great Nikon and Canon releases in short order, and again raise the bar for fullframe mirrorless. Sony will not step aside and just give away their leadership in this market. Sony is a huge corporation with the will, the tech, and the resources to stay on top in this segment. No worries man. Cheers

Sony isn't worrying CO. If that thought makes you happy, so be it. Sony publicly predicted Nikon would enter with a good product and Canon too. Sony will wait and see what these new cameras bring and THEN they will bring out their own new fullframe mirrorless versions to answer and further push the envelope. All Nikon and Canon fans I hope you get great fullframe mirrorless cameras. That will push Sony to keep innovating and give us even better fullframe models that outdo the best from Nikon and Canon. I have been following the Nikon hype and I hope it will be a great release, probably the large lens mount will accommodate BOTH a fullframe and medium-format image sensor. If so that would be great for Nikon's future viability. If Nikon's D850 sensor is the basis for their new fullframe mirrorless sensor, chances are that sensor also will be made by Sony as is the D850 sensor. BTW Sony makes the medium-format image sensors for both the mirrorless medium-format Fuji and Hasselblad cameras. Canon will follow with a good fullframe mirrorless of their own, I am sure.
Folks you have to remember Sony entered this market just a few years ago, and fearlessly took on the twin DSLR beasts of Canon and Nikon, and showed a better way to go with its mirrorless cameras. Now Nikon and Canon will do their best to catch back up to Sony in fullframe mirrorless. No need to lose any sleep over Sony, they have huge resources and top technology, they are prepared and ready for real competition. Just wait and see what Sony's next releases will be. FYI, I was a pro Nikon and Canon user for 40 years, and switched to Sony pro fullframe mirrorless back in January 2017, and have never looked back. Cheers

If that makes me happy so be it? Sony's new A9 full frame mirrorless was supposed to compete head to head with the Nikon D5 and Canon 1D X Mk.II. Where is that camera? Pro photographers don't seem to be taking it seriously. If you look at the Olympics and pro sporting events, Nikon and Canon dominate - especially Canon.
Both Nikon and Canon have far more lenses available than Sony. For example both Nikon and Canon make tilt/shift lenses. Sony doesn't. Where will professional architectural photographers go? They will continue with Nikon and Canon. Sony has no lenses that can match Nikon's new 180-400mm f/4 lens with built-in teleconverter or Canon's 200-400mm f/4 lens with built-in teleconverter.
Sony has been number one with mirrorless. That's going to change soon when Nikon and Canon get serious with mirrorless. Nikon and Canon have been cameras companies for about 80 years. Sony got in because they have deep pockets

CO if you think Sony fullframe mirrorless is going to be killed off by Nikon and Canon, then I would be seriously worried about your sanity and grasp of reality. Sony has already publicly stated their 2020 goal to be the world's number one overall digital camera seller. Sony is huge . They have more corporate resources that Canon and Nikon combined, and the tech to match. They still are,and have been the world leader in image sensor tech, from cameras to cellphones. They will not cower or surrender to the best from Nikon and canon. Bring it on. We here at UHH have had many Nikon and Canon fanboys before in these mirrorless discussions, but CO you take the cake. lol Cheers

That change has already started apparently. According to Canon FWIW they took over first place in mirrorless in the first quarter of 2018 in Japan. Both Canon & Nikon are a full system camera company and not an electronics company like Sony. Most evident when you need servicing. They only have third party representation whereas both Nikon & Canon have their own dedicated NPS and CPS with fast turnarounds for professionals in mind.
Your welcome to shill all you want williams but Sony has a lot of catching up to do before professionals will take them seriously and compete with the top two.

You're going over the line when you start determining if I'm sane and have a grasp of reality. Who are are you to evaluate me? I wouldn't be able to do mechanical engineering and program computer numerically controlled machine tools if I was.
Sony has always been there making image sensors for Nikon and yes Canon as well as most of your cellphones. Yes their first cameras had potential, but some shortcomings , but they pressed on and improved in all areas. Now it is Sony that is the leader in fullframe mirrorless that Nikon and Canon are pursuing, I find that quite ironic to your arguments about Sony being worried. Nikon and Canon were worried that they were losing marketshare. That is why they are spending tons to get into the game, finally. We will all see what happens in this market going forward, but I would not bet your house on Sony being killed off as your cartoon suggests, or you just might become homeless. Dont take my remarks personally, it is all in jest, just like your cartoon, as these arguments, including mine, really serve NO purpose until real cameras are on the scene and tested and used, then compared. August 23rd will be a big day for Nikon, with Canon to follow. And dont forget Sony at Photokina in late September and Photoworld in October. lol Cheers.
I was an avid Nikon and Canon fanboy for 40 years before switching to Sony for my pro work . I fully expect Nikon and Canon to come up with winners in their first fullframe mirrorless systems. I hope they do. But I also am confident Sony has the skill, tech and corporate drive to keep making them play catchup with the next great releases from Sony. Time will tell.
Nikon and Canon didn't really take Sony seriously as a camera maker for years, but they do now. You should also take Sony seriously as a camera maker. Sony is world's #1 seller of fullframe cameras (mirrorless and DSLR) with combined sales of their A7,A7II,A7III, A7S, A7SII, A7RII,A7RIII and A9. Sony also has the world's #1 selling fullframe camera (mirrorless or DSLR) with its A7III, taking that title away from the Nikon D850 . It should be a very exciting next twelve months, starting on August 23rd with Nikon's official release. I look forward to it. Cheers and relax CO.

Agreed, the only PRO telephoto Sony has at the moment is there new 400 mm 2.8. Which, by the way, looks good on paper but is still unproven.
