I was an avid Nikon and Canon fanboy for 40 years before switching to Sony for my pro work . I fully expect Nikon and Canon to come up with winners in their first fullframe mirrorless systems. I hope they do. But I also am confident Sony has the skill, tech and corporate drive to keep making them play catchup with the next great releases from Sony. Time will tell.
Nikon and Canon didn't really take Sony seriously as a camera maker for years, but they do now. You should also take Sony seriously as a camera maker. Sony is world's #1 seller of fullframe cameras (mirrorless and DSLR) with combined sales of their A7,A7II,A7III, A7Ss, A7SII, A7RII,A7RIII and A9. Sony also has the world's #1 selling fullframe camera (mirrorless or DSLR) with its A7III, taking that title away from the Nikon D850 . It should be a very exciting next twelve months, starting on August 23rd with Nikon's official release. I look forward to it. Cheers and relax CO.

Pros are already using the new 400 f2.8, it is real, and already proven at actual pro sports games This lens was secretly tested by top sports pros around the world for over a year and a half. Including shooting at the Winter Olympics in Korea, Wimbledon Tennis, World Cup soccer, etc. And after its official introduction earlier this year,it also has been used at Major League Soccer, the British Open golf, this year's Wimbledon Tennis and more. But Sony has always had 300 f2.8,

https://www.sony.com/electronics/camera-lenses/sal500f40g in their A-mount lens system for years, which work well on their E-Mount with Sony adapters. And Sony is coming out with E-Mount 500mm f4 and 600mm f4 lenses also. They have already shown the lens design in patents and registrations for both.
CO and billnikon PLEASE, PLEASE do more thorough research before making your statements. In the meantime the Sony 100-400mm E-mount lens and adapted Canon and Sigma long lenses have also been used by pros. You two only seem to know parts of the complete reality. Study up guys. I am a pro photojournalist and hang out in those circles, maybe that is why I am exposed to the current pro reality. lol Cheers

On this billnikon, we can both agree, let the race begin. I look forward to real competition, as that will keep all camera makers innovating, and we all win. Cheers
Sony may be worried, but they knew better than us what is coming. I'm sure Nikon and Canon execs are also apprehensive wondering what Sony may have up their sleeve that will trump what the other two come out with, making the new additions look feeble.
Nikon is said to come out with a full featured adapter for F mount lenses on the new mirrorless. What if Sony has one ready to go?
Just as Nikon and Canon have played leap frog over the years the same will probably hold true for major entrants in the mirrorless market.
Only time will tell who has the best system and who has the best marketing.

That Sony cartoon reminds me of Mark Twain: "the report of my death was an exaggeration." The Sony death wish sounds like a rationalization and projection from folks who worry about the rapid demise of the DSLR. Worry not, the end of the DSLR will be extended as Canon and Nikon will gradually decrease their investments in their DSLRs.
The frantic efforts by Nikon and Canon to create full-frame mirrorless cameras are an implicit admission that the future of photography is mirrorless; they understand that the DSLR technology has hit a dead end. Sony is an advanced technology company with deep pockets. It will be years until Nikon and Canon will catch up with Sony. I have no death wish for Nikon and Canon though: we all benefit from competition among strong companies to advance technology and keep prices down.

It may be a Coincidence but it seems as Nikon's Mirrorless System official announcement approaches Sony has been offering more and more sales, trade in's and discounts of various mirrorless camera's. Hummmmmmm.
Sony needs to focus on getting a complete line of professional products - specifically amazing lenses that are not made by another manufacturer and "adapted" to Sony. There are too many special application lenses that I use from Nikon that are not present in the Sony lineup for either crop or full frame. I am intrigued by their body technology - I even have an RX10M4 just because I love it's handling. But I will not switch at this point.
I bet Sony is wishing all the luck in the world to Nikon, that just means more sales to Sony's sensor department
By the way it will be Nikon that want have any lenses for there new mirrowless and then it will be pro lenses, there (nikon) are years behind.

I made the switch years ago, Sony has pro lenses for anything I want to shoot.

Agreed, Sony has over 46 present E-Mount lenses; 33 present A-mount lenses. And more are on the way. Sony owners can also take advantage of great current and major new lenses releases from quality lens makers like Sigma, Tamron, Meike, Laowa, Samyang/Rokinon, Zeiss and others made with native E-Mount, WITHOUT need for any adaptors.
I wish Gene51 and other Sony haters would do their proper research and get their facts correct before posting . It is tiring having to educate folks to the truth ,when it is right out there for them to find themselves. Cheers
