For those of you who don't like the Rule of Thirds for your composition, try the Rule of 35's! ( be sure to count them ) Put your subject in any of these rectangles and your picture will be great - (not). Took this out of the foyer of a hotel - brought to mind the Rule of Thirds.
Second photo is busy sidewalk - I was trying to hand-hold my wide angle with a slower shutter speed to give the blur to the pedestrians. It's interesting that some of the feet are stationary while the upper body keeps moving and gets the blur effect.
Thanks,
Abby
Rule of 35's
Too Busy To Eat
I thought the rule of thirds was one third of your money for cameras and equipment, one third for alcohol and one third wasted on other stuff.

Ha Ha!
Rules are meant to broken - 2/3's photo equipment - 1/3 alcohol

Using your breakout above, I'd like to learn how to apply the "Rule of 72" to the 2/3rds that I don't drink!
That would be an excellent rule of thumb for all photographers!!

no drinking and flying!
But you just said that "Rules are meant to broken." Now there are exceptions?

I actually ate at one of those New York carts one time - now I know why nobody is stopping there to eat!
Here is a photo of a guy thinking about it though -

Great shot. Reminds me of home.
(The street scene, NOT the "mystery meat" )
Grew up on hot dogs from carts. Always brown mustard (gouldons only) and sauerkraut. Now they have some nasty red sauce! First pic looks like Colombus Circle.
