Thank you, Angela. It is a typical air plant. It doesn't need much water at all, especially with the humidity this time of year. Occasional misting and dampening the soil once in a while should do it.

I watched a special on rare animals and the photographer was using black backgrounds
And it really worked, he did state he sometimes uses white. Then today I see your work
And the flowers also pop so Thanks again

Beautiful work, Carol, and a lovely bromeliad! I've seen these little beauties planted in shells.

Nicely done Carol. I like them all.
Know what you mean about cats and plants.
We have 3 cats and one of them always chews on my wife's plants.
We bought some special plants sold specially for cats to eat. They ignored them.

Will

Thank you, Will. If there is one thing that is certain about cats it is that nothing is ever certain about cats! I am constantly amazed at their antics and idiosyncrasies.

Wow Carol your work with light here is outstanding! An interesting subject. I love the fact that you buy and care for plants for their photographic value, we all benefit.

Thank you, Phil! In some cases the plants I get are suitable to plant in the yard but others need to be coddled. This little one could probably be stuck on a tree branch but I think I'm going to keep it on the porch so I can enjoy it.

You should give it a try when you get a chance, Jim. There are a lot of ways to experiment with backgrounds and lighting.

Thank you, Donna! I just need to be careful that I'm not too kind to it. I am prone to kill plants with kindness!

Tillandsia cyanea is in the bromeliad family and is native to the rainforests of Ecuador. It is also know as the Pink Quill plant. I love the colors and the neat growth pattern of this little air plant. It is only a few inches high but it creates a bright spot wherever it is placed. The pink bract last for several months with the blue/purple flowers opening periodically but only lasting a couple of days. The bracts are relatively flat as you can see in the close up shot.

Beautiful, Carol. Out here in the Fakahatchee Strand, we are the wild orchard and bromiliad, capital of North America, have not seen one like this though, love it

Thank you, Gregory! These aren’t native but I think they like the climate. I know there are a lot of really beautiful examples in the wild.
