Hi Carol,
Very nice images; tack sharp and perfectly exposed. They probably wouldn't work out in northern Idaho. Summer temp's are in the mid 90's, but humidity quite low.

I see you have finely put your D850 to work. Great results.

Thank you, Gary! Northern Idaho might be a bit out of the comfort range for this little plant although it would be OK as a house plant. Yes, the first two are focus stacks shot with the D850. I only got it a couple of weeks ago and it is a delight to use.

I just used Google to see where they can be purchased. Surprise, surprise ... they can be ordered through Amazon with 2 day shipping.

How often do they usually bloom if kept as an indoor plant?

Bill, I got mine at Home Depot for $5. I just got it a couple of weeks ago so I don’t know too much about it. I know the pink bract last for a long time. The little flowers open in pairs, one on each side, and they only last 2 or 3 days. There is a good bit of time between their opening, too. This one only had the pink when I got it and I had to wait for it to do its thing. Bromeliads do well down here so I expect it to thrive. This particular variety doesn’t get very big.

Tillandsia cyanea is in the bromeliad family and is native to the rainforests of Ecuador. It is also know as the Pink Quill plant. I love the colors and the neat growth pattern of this little air plant. It is only a few inches high but it creates a bright spot wherever it is placed. The pink bract last for several months with the blue/purple flowers opening periodically but only lasting a couple of days. The bracts are relatively flat as you can see in the close up shot.

good shots

Thank you, Nim. I like them, too. Many of the tropical plants we have are so colorful and unusual.
