I've gotten excellent service from KEH whenever I have used them and they always give me a reasonable amount on trade in

I live about 25 miles away from KEH's Office/warehouse, and I wanted to go there to inspect a camera I saw on their site that I wanted to buy.

I asked if that was possible.

No, it wasn't, unless I gave the a credit card number and bought it before I looked at it. Then I could drive to Smyrna, GA, and look at it. They said if I didn't like it they would nullify the purchase.

Too much hassle.

I was informed that they are a "mail order" company primarily. Not like B&H where there is an actual store with merchandise to view and touch (if you're in NYC).

I think KEH is reputable, but I would choose B&H any day as a first source of photography equipment.

I have always had good experiences with KEH. They are probably the best place overall to buy used equipment.

I have purchased several lenses and a camera from them with good results. I had to send one of the lenses back for repair under their warranty and they fixed it with no hassles. I would definitely recommend them.

I've bought a number of used items from KEH over the years. Good, reliable and their condition ratings are conservative.

Keep in mind that you get a warranty even with most of their used gear (typically 90 days, if memory serves). Same with the used dept. at Adorama and B&H.

Gear they sell is professionally inspected, cleaned, adjusted or repaired if needed.

You might find things cheaper from Craigslist, eBay, local private party sellers... but your warranty in those cases is usually "30 seconds or 30 feet, whichever comes first"!

The other popular warranty is used in the car industry. It is called the Standard Used Car Warranty. It is referred to as the "Macadam Warranty".
Your new used car purchase is warranted that the car perform properly until it hits the pavement driving off the lot.

KEH warranty is far better than that. I have always been happy. Their condition statement is very conservative.

I Bought a 300mm Nikkor lens and a 1.4 teleconverter from them. Both items were in better condition than described. I would not hesitate to purchase from them again.

I have had all positive experiences with KEH over several purchases from them and sales to them. I got one lens from them that had a focus problem and returned it. Refund was quick with no problems.

Either the KEH condition is better than described or KEH is a welcome relief because we have became so used to exaggerated descriptions from others. And their return policy is excellent. For items that are not returnable they make clear that the item is in poor shape and "as is" and the price reflects this.

In over 50 years, I've bought all kinds of new and used equipment, but until KEH came along, even face-to-face with dealers was a bit iffy sometimes.

KEH is about as conservative as the Japanese are in gear rating. Even the "BGN" gear is far better than "EX" with others. I bought a used Hasselblad lens (150mm f/4) a number of years ago rated "BGN", but I inspected it with a 10x loupe, and couldn't find a single scratch on the body or glass. There was some wear on the end caps, but nothing on the lens. Since then, I've purchased from KEH and Roberts (Used Photo Pro) in Indianapolis, and would recommend either.

And, as far as the Japanese go, I've never had the first problem, and they (to my dealings) are among the best. A few years ago, I bought a "Good" condition Mamiya 645 Pro TL, along with an extra lens, tubes, magazines, etc. When the gear got here, it looked as though it just came out of the box. Great deals with them since. B&H is about as conservative, but a bit more expensive.

B and H is number one for new equipment, with Adorama being a close second. However, KEH is superior for used equipment. It has a much larger selection than either of its New York-based competitors.

They're terrific to deal with. I had a problem one time but was within the 180 day warranty and they helped me very quickly. Excellent products and customer service.!

What are you looking to buy?
I am not selling anything, just curious.
