With Nikon, everything is periodically on sale; especially if it is at or near end of life. The D850 is a whole different animal. If you really need a D850 to take your art to the next level, why change your mind and spend $1,100 (a savings of only $100 [body only] or $300 with kit lens) for something less than what you want when the $1,100 can be used toward what you want? If you want a D850 now, you may still want it after you buy the D7500.

On the other hand, if your motives to buy the D850 are tainted by the status of a "professional" camera or reasons other than that you really need that kind of power and unique abilities to accomplish your photographic goals and if your skill level does really match that level of camera, then you should buy the D7500.

Unless you can uses your present camera to its' fullest extent then upgrading is only and ego satisfaction. You don't need more camera, IMHO you should use what you have unless you just have to spend money.

The D500 is the "top of the line" cropped frame (DX) camera . . . Why not also own the "top of the line" (FX) camera . . . The D850 ?

Nikon makes a living on selling cameras, After the D7500 they will want you to buy the D7600 then the D7700. Do you see a trend here??

If my lottery ticket came in, so that I could also replicate the investment in DX lenses in full frame, that would be the first thing I'd do, too. I'd probably get two and forget about the D500.

However, as I don't find the purchase of lottery tickets entertaining, I don't think that's going to happen. LOL

Skip the D7500. I'd get the D750 FF, which is what I've been using for a few years. Try some comparison sites for the Nikon bodies. You don't want to look at that D850 on your desk and wonder why you bought it.

Read comparisons and specs, and decide what features are important to you.

Lately I’ve thought things were serious that were a joke and thought a joke serious. I think the OP’s post was a joke. If it’s not think about why several folks think it’s a joke and you’ll have your answer. This is giving me heartburn, err uhh GAS. I have a D750 and a D500 and am saving for an 850. And no I can’t really push either the D750 or the D500. I want the D850 purely for fun. That’s why I push the shutter button :-)

It would be hard to tell except for the fact that the OP agreed with the post that said it was a joke.

That was a subtle give away.

The other give away?:

If Nikon had sent you an email telling you to buy the D6 because it's on sale, would you do it - just because they said so?

If you made a choice to buy a certain camera, don't let anyone change that decision.

That is why I don't think anyone should ask the question "Which camera should I buy?"

Well, the D7500 deletes the second card slot. That might be a feature you need.

Great point. It’s cheaper to operate!

D 7500 is a darned good camera, and a lot cheaper than either of your potential choices and a "little" smaller and lighter. However if you have full frame lenses they won't work properly with the D 7500 since its a half frame camera. Know there are more technical terms for this but I'm a simple guy so I stick to simple terms. Good luck

Doesn’t make any difference. Get the 850 anyway

Don't think so at least the OP need one of each in the Nikon DSLR line up. He may need to get whatever new mirrorless that Nikon is coming out too.
