The D7500 is just a cut down version of the D500!

Which is why the email made no sense to me.

As to this thread, Nimbushopper had it right. His was the second response. A little further down on page one I said so.

should have said something.

If Nikon had sent you an email telling you to buy the D6 because it's on sale, would you do it - just because they said so?

If you made a choice to buy a certain camera, don't let anyone change that decision.

Well, Bill, I normally try to steer clear of this kind of conversation - equipment choice is so personal and depends largely on what you are doing with your photography - but in this case I cannot resist commenting. Get the D850. The D7500 is a nice crop sensor DSLR (I have one) and it has plenty of great features - but you already have arguably the best crop sensor camera on the market (the D500), so the D7500 would be a step backwards. The D850 is very probably the best full frame DSLR out there. There is literally nothing I don't love about this piece of gear. Fantastic AF, unbelievable low light performance, blazing frame rate, XQD storage, etc., etc.. I would go so far as to say, if you get the D850, it'll be your last DSLR (we will all be mirrorless but the time this camera is obsolete!). Sell your car, if you have to, but get the D850. You won't regret it!

If an upgrade makes you happy - go for it but don't let some sales flyer make your decision for you. Get what you want and only you can make that decision!

You have two very good DX bodies. Are you under the impression that they are not doing the job for you? Why a "full frame?"
Why a D7500? It could be on sale or even someone could give it to you as a present. Why three DX cameras? Is the D7500 or the D850 going to make you a better photographer?
If the lenses you have now are not full frame you have to start by selling much of what you now have to start with a new camera (D850). Is that what you want?
Use your common sense and if what you have now is not doing the job I would say it is time to update...unless you enjoy burning money.

Very, VERY different animals. If you move to the 850, a marvelous full frame camera, your current lenses will work with the 850. BUT if you don't switch to lenses designed for full frame (more expensive), it would be like buying a race horse and asking me to ride it in the Kentucky Derby. With the 7500, you'll be able to use your current lenses. I guess it depends on just how much money you want to spend?

When Nimbushopper said:

"I gather you're being facetious !"

I said "YES"

That was back on page 1.

I would venture a guess that they have a boatload of d7500’s all over the place, and we all know how easy(lol) it is to find a D850 in stock.

Nikon sells cameras. If they talk you into buying the D7500 and then a year or less from now they help you decide on a D850, then you've bought 2 instead of 1 new camera. Just buy what you want if you can afford it. Be happy. You don't live forever.

As I understand them, the 850 would be a really BIG step up!

But, if you are a truly serious photographer . . . . .

The answer is obvious.

Go Canon!

The D500 and D7200 are almost the same camera. The 500 might have more focus points, and a nicer screen, but both have similar sensors, wireless, weatherproofing, ports, time-lapse, storage slots and so on.

If you are using one as the back-up for the other, then you should be shopping for something that matches your workflow. If you are going to continue using the same lenses, then your new camera needs to match your old lenses.

Personally I have not yet moved to full-frame anything. I am just not yet sold on the idea, even though I have seen some stunning shots out of the D850.

If you are ready to go full-frame, then the D850 will be a good camera for a long time. Make sure you have plenty of storage, though, because even the JPG files are big, and the RAW files are massive.

If you want to save a little money, and you don't need the massive files, and "pretty good" autofocus tracking is good enough, then go for the D750. It is 98% as good for 50% of the cost.

Keep the D500, and use the D7200 as a down payment for a D850, forget the D7500. So now you can say you just got a suggestion from a Pentax owner.
