If you have upgraded your OS to High Sierra, it came with an enhanced version of "Photos". It now has almost the same features as the now unsupported "Aperture". It will do almost everything you need until you find the need to do more in-depth post processing and it is free!!

I am a casual photographer looking for a simple, easy to use, post processing program to install on my MacBook Pro. I have just purchased a Fujifilm X-T20 for all-around shooting. I don’t want a program that is complicated or hard to use. Thanks in advance.

I have used Photoshop Elements for years. The bundle with Premier Elements (for movies) is available for $99. I’d go with that, especially since you can now get the Camera Raw plug in with it.

If you feel you need something more powerful, you can easily upgrade to PS CC at a later date. That’s what I did. For $10/mo it’s a pretty good deal. It also includes Lightroom CC and Lightroom Classic CC.

Adobe Photoshop Elements is very complete, including an "Easy" mode. It happens to be on a one day sale for $60 at Amazon today. It is hard to match the abundant training and learning resources.

Love my Photoshop Elements 15! ❤️

Adobe Photoshop Express; free, simple to learn and use. Crop, adjust exposure, color, effects, and details in several different ways.

Affinity Photo, Apple’s pick as 2015 third party app of the year, is worth a try.

Go to the Serif page linked here. Scroll all the way down to find the link for a free 30-day trial. (Read the page to see what it does.)

Another vote for Affinity Photo. It's very easy to get started and the tutorials are excellent.

Here is an example of a HDR stack and additional processing in Affinity Photo. My daughter took the original pics in Iceland and sent them to me so I could play around with them. The app is very easy to use once you learn how layers work. Loads of free tutorials avail on-line (go to Vimeo).

Still, I do not understand why people would guide you to PS when all you want is simple processing which Photos will give you and you already have it.

I absolutely love Topaz Studio. You can do a lot with the free program since all of the "Public" presets are included. A very inexpensive pro adjustment to add is Dehaze. They have some fantastic tutorials as well.

I have an iMac and my photos app has an editor built in, easy to use and does not make my photos look unreal.

I shoot mostly bald eagles. I shoot to get the white head correct. Often I need to lighten everything EXCEPT the head and tail. I use Photos on my Mac and have to lighten all at the same time. Does anyone have any simple program that I can use to isolate certain areas to be left alone?

I agree with Burke Photo. I just started post processing and tried the free programs like Gimp. For some reason, they weren't interesting. I read some more reviews and tried Affinity Photo. Jackpot for me! Lots of good videos and their approach made sense. I love to post process now. I am 73.

I wasn't aware that the purpose of an editing program was to be 'interesting'; I thought the purpose was to get certain tasks done..

"Interesting" was probably a wrong word choice. The "structure" of Affinity Photo, to me, suites my approach and thus I am motivated to use it to complete tasks. To each his own, right. We don't need to overanalyze it.

Well, you just encountered one of "not so pleasant" hogs. There are a few on here, but most of us are more pleasant and not on such an ego trip.
