I am a casual photographer looking for a simple, easy to use, post processing program to install on my MacBook Pro. I have just purchased a Fujifilm X-T20 for all-around shooting. I don’t want a program that is complicated or hard to use. Thanks in advance.

Did your camera not come with a software disk? Is it for MS Windows? Chances are there is a Mac option on their website for free. It is designed to be easy....though probably limited as to what it 'can' do. But it is a simple start! Later you will get the PP 'bug'.

Search for free Mac Post processing programmes and check that they include your exact model if using Raw. Jpegs are generic so all will work with those.

If you are just learning post processing it could take you a while (if ever) before you find a 'needed' action that a free programme cannot do. So keep your wallet in your pocket and get aquainted with what is available on the internet.

have fun

A "simple, easy to use, post processing program" is photographing in JPEG. All software has some degree of difficulty inherent in the software; what is difficult to you may not be difficult to another person. The MacPhun software, in particular Luminar2018, may work out ok for you as it is based primarily on set filters that can be amended as desired. It does a good job of processing. Also, go to the Mac store and check out their offerings, many of the programs only cost a few dollars.

I’ve tried almost all of the popular ones and have come to the concludion that if you use a Mac, it’s built in Photos is very easy to use and very adequate. It is for basic editing which is more than enough for most images. When I found I needed more, I moved to LR classic. Now I’m playing around with LR CC on an iPad Pro and having a lot of fun with it.
But no matter which I have used, the bottom line is that you get more out of your post editor if you shoot in RAW. You limit yourself and the editor’s capabilities if you choose JPEG
My 2 cents.

Luminar 2018 for post processing. Be sure and do some shooting on the Fine (jpeg) settings using the film simulations. You will get some fantastic shots without processing.

I've never suggested this before but what if you could BUY an older version of Photoshop, before CC, such as CS5 or CS3. You probably can't find a CS6 version (last one before Photoshop CC) as no one will part with their copy. The price would be reasonable for an older version though. There are still many guides and manuals for those versions available cheap. And you would be learning and practicing in the world's leading post processing program. Just because it's not the latest version, it's still Photoshop, the king.

CS6 is available as an OEM version. Legit offer.

I would definitely start with Photos, which is free on your computer, and add plug-ins later if you want. But Photos honestly should be all that you need right now.

I second that.
Photos can do RAW, pretty much all the basics, is user friendly and simple as most Apple software. Also it includes very simple access to favorites, albums, slideshows and all that other stuff...
This question about post processing software pops up quite often, but for some reason people don't even mention Photos, which IMO is very good app, especially after the last update which gave it many upgrades. Plus as you said - it's part of every new Mac and it's free.
If I need to achieve something Photos can't do (Iike layers, perspective, lens corrections) I use Affinity, which may not fall into the category of "easiest to use" for some people, but it's highly capable, tutorials are very good, clear, straight to the point and the price is hard to beat.
Phocus sounds interesting to me too, I'll look into it when I can.

I recently started using Adobe Bridge for 90% of my post work. It's included in $9.00/month Creative Cloud and it does all the basics including lens correction, healing, graduated filters, perspective control and can convert jpeg to DNG. It also uses the Adobe file system and page layout so a move to PS or LR is almost seamless.

Try the Photo program on your Mac-it's easy and pretty complete-most programs are very similar and take more time to transfer photos into the apple program and cloud etc. Unless you want todo masking I find it quite complete and free.

I use Photoshop Elements, about $80, easy learning curve, lots of flexibility as you gain experience. If you shoot RAW, be sure it's ACR version supports your model of camera. The Editor has Quick, Guided, and Expert modes. You can start with Quick or Guided for an edit and then go to Expert to view in detail the different steps that the program used for the edit and then make any additional edits you want for a desired effect.

Question, is the 2018 version of PSE worth it over the PSE 15 edition. I own the latter one

Adobe Photoshop Elements is very complete, including an "Easy" mode. It happens to be on a one day sale for $60 at Amazon today. It is hard to match the abundant training and learning resources.
