I see my app was mentioned a couple of times in this thread... So I am happy to let you know that there is a new version of EOS Inspector available for download!

The app was rewritten from scratch and now supports all of the recent Canon EOS cameras, including the 5D Mark IV. It took me five long months of intense reverse-engineering various EOS cameras and finally the app is capable of not only showing a plain shutter count value, but also giving a shutter usage detalization. For newer EOS models like 1D X Mark II, 5D Mark IV and 5Ds you'll get separate counters for photos taken through the viewfinder, photos taken via the Live View and a number of Live View sessions. All this information is presented visually on the detalization bar.

The new version is a free update for all existing customers.

Sorry, but there is no Windows version of EOS Inspector available! I'm a Mac-developer and I only do native Mac apps. Windows is a completely foreign platform for me.

No other software is required to run the EOS Inspector on a Mac. Just make sure its macOS version is at least 10.12 Sierra.

For a PC you can get EOSmsg: http://www.eosmsg.com/

I've been using it for several years and it has been very reliable. There is small one time fee (<$10) for each camera which is being checked which seems very reasonable to me.

Do you mean they charge per physical camera body, so you have to pay each time you want to check a shutter count? Or do they require you to unlock support for a concrete EOS models so once you paid, for example, for 5D Mark IV you can have unlimited readings from any camera as long it is of the same model?

It is a one time fee for unlimited readings for each specific camera, so two camera bodies means two payments.

Why do people keep posting "Why be worried about the shutter count?" Well, like the OP, I'm pretty sure they are just like me. I bought a USED Canon 5d Mk IV and I, too, want to know what the shutter count is. I'm curious how much this camera was used before I bought it. In the future, If I decide to sell it, I want to be able to put the count in my description so the new buyer will know. People are just curious and like to know as much about something as possible.
