WOW.. what a crappy introduction to this site....
Less than a week in....
So in my initial post, I was gently warned that there might be some "gruff" comments from some who are tired of what they believed to be questions that have been repeatedly asked. I get it and was expecting it. But I then create a post with a question regarding a photo and I get a vile response that was out of line and a personal attack out of nowhere. I have tried to complain to admin via PM here and on the tab at the comments section and no response.
I am not comfortable with the possibility of similar responses/slurs/attacks. How does this person get to act like this? Not sure I will be as active as I had planned to be.

Don't let the jackasses get you down. There are many who will provide really good advice and guidance, as well as meaningful critique - with patience and in consideration of your experience and ability.
On the other hand, it doesn't hurt to do a quick search here on a topic that interests you or you need more information on.

Sorry, but it happens everywhere. I ignore. Best of luck and welcome.

1) sorry about that, but that is life on the net - no one knows them and no one can reach them for an old fashioned "attitude adjustment" - besides they aren't worth it
2) you can just ignore them the old fashioned way - I do that, or you can go into the menus at the top and "Ignore" the person, they will not be able to post on your threads after that. Just click on their user name and in the window that pops up check the box to put them on your ignore list.
I got on a couple of ignore lists because I tend to be a bit blunt at times. One was someone from another nation who made a post about gun control - and worded it in a way I interpreted as being "holier than thou" and I said so. (He wanted to know why his post had been moved to the attic. I told him gun control was a major debate here in the US and I didn't think we needed him preaching to us about it.) I have tried the "extend an olive branch" because he does post a lot of good jokes and funny links etc and often things where I agree with him. But he still has me on "Ignore" - Not a Problem - I do not need to post on his threads. I have lots of other stuff to do. The other person who put me on Ignore and I made peace and I got removed from his ignore list.
The world is full of idiots and you don't have to look far or travel wide to find them. Enjoy the GOOD people here in UHH and take the rest with a grain of salt. Welcome!

Not sure how many different bulletin boards you belong to, but it doesn't matter when it comes to trolls. There are people who are too afraid to confront people in person, so they go online and try to stir up trouble when they know there is no chance of retribution.
On the other hand, there are many more good people willing to help, than bad people. I'd venture to say, those trolls were asking the same old tired questions when they first started.....but now that they are "experts," they feel the need to bully people, because maybe someone suggested they RTFM, (read the f-ing manual) or "google it"
When I see those posts, I kind of remind them that maybe someone did google it, and was directed to this site??? Of course, I get attacked by the trolls for using common sense as well.
The only way to kill a troll is to starve it to death. Don't feed it by giving it credit, arguing, or even reading what they have to say. Eventually, they'll stop having "fun" at the expense of others, and maybe move on.
I enjoy seeing comments from the majority of the members here, and I hope you stay long enough to benefit as much as I have. Try the "Ignore List" function or just do it the old fashioned way -- works for me! And thanks for all the compliments, suggestions and constructive criticism from those of you who provide it.
If that is all it was, then I would get it.... Photo snobs, and Gear/gadget elitists are what they are are ... But a homophobic slur from nowhere should be addressed. Just my $0.02 worth.
...there're a lot worse things in life than words on a page. Plenty of good folks around here who will help at the drop of a hat, ignore the trolling and enjoy the benefits!

Be sure and put them on your Ignore List. I just did. If enough people follow suit, eventually we'll drive them away.

Well, if that is your take on it.
Do not under any circumstances go to "The Attic" section. Among other things Admin moves all political debates there sooner or later and I ended up there following some people who used to post in "Chit Chat" but gave up about a year ago. Get into a civilized intelligent debate with someone and the trolls jumped in an filled the threads up with cursing, names, insults etc. Every so often one of them will come on the other Sub-Forums and try to stir things up. After a while they go back when Admin moves all their stuff to Attic again. One or two can carry on a decent conversation when out of "The Attic" and a few even actually post photos or things about photography every so often.
I read through your posts and some of the replies. I didn't see anything worth posting a complaint about. My guess it the admin didn't either. The internet is still very much like the wild, wild west.

Which of your 3 previous posts are you referring to? I found only one rude comment in the post that I commented a couple times to and you seemed to like what I said in at least that it was constructive on a couple points. Now the rude comment one person made, made no sense to me at all. It was totally out of left field as they say. And we as UHH probably owe you an apology for it as it was weird. Did you make another post with multiple nasty comments to it? Yes, not a good introduction.
