Yes, but he made the same argument
again, so maybe he could explain his position
again. Much redundancy in this thread. Old hat, no?

I can't believe this topic has gone on for 14 pages, when there are two simple answers. You have your Adobe sycophants who think it's the best thing since sliced bread and it works just fine for the pro's, and the dedicated photographers who want the convenience of both PS & LR in a package with recurring updates. It works for them, and that's great. Then there are the hobbyist, amateur and advanced photographers who just can't justify spending ten bucks a month forever, (Until Adobe raises the price) who will only use a small portion of the features with LR & PS, and find alternative programs that do exactly what they want them to do much cheaper or free. Actually, this boils down to the same thing as the Canon vs Nikon debates. Different strokes for different folks, and nobody is going to change anybody's mind.

Good summation, Jakebrake.
I've been reading these threads trying to decide what I want to do. I have three freebie post processing programs, and After shot that came with Word Perfect. A friend had a purchased Photo Shop on her Apple, for years, until it stopped working last month. It was impressive, till..... I was considering purchasing LR for organizing my photos, but.....
I've also been considering a new Apple MacBook because so many here recommend them, then found out just as many, if not more, use Windows.
BTW, how do you like your 80D? I've been thinking of replacing my XSi.
And, thank you for your service to our country.

That's because they don't know any better ;-) But that's a whole other topic that will go on forever.

Ah, which one's don't know better? The Mac users, or the Windows users? Or was this a rhetorical statement to get this thread to page 16?

I was going to say the same thing, until I realized he answered the question in his next sentence.

Thank you.
I love my 80D which I purchased suffering from a GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) attack. I really didn't need another crop sensor body but don't regret for a second buying it, as I do have the 7D MKII which I also love. The 80D has a full touch/articulating screen which can control all menu functions, and the additional 4 megapixels is nice. I find I am taking my 80D most of the time except when shooting my grand kid's sports which the 7D MKII is king. I don't think you would be disappointed in the 80D as it is head and shoulders ahead of the XSI and the learning curve will be minimal as you are familiar with the menu system. I just received an email from Adorama and they have them for $999. Sheesh, I paid a hundred more from B&H a few months ago. Should have waited.
As for computers, I'm a Dell/Windows dude. Have a laptop & desktop and they do all I need to do in PP at 1/3 the cost of Apples.
For organizing my photos I use Windows Pictures with date/folders & sub-folders on import. I can very easily find any image I desire with the 'search' function. I also use the PSE12 catalog in my workflow for tags and the star rating system in the organizer.
For a free great PP program try Topaz Studio.
http://web.topazlabs.com/downloads. My PSE12 which I have had for years has become quite quirky and since downloading Topaz, I find myself using it more than any of the other 4 PP programs I have. The initial suite is free and you can add additional plug in's as you need them for nominal costs. For me being and advanced amateur the subscription Lightroom/PS at ten bucks a month (until Adobe raises the price) is entirely more than I need.
Best of luck in your quest ImTrying and have a great 2018!
How do you access and modify your edits in Lightroom CC when you no longer have a subscription?

That's a popular argument, but it makes no difference who "owns" it as long as I don't have to keep paying. I have WordPerfect that I bought years ago. For all practical purposes, I own it. I install it on every new computer I get without paying additional charges. If it doesn't work on Windows 25, I'll buy something else.
Hi Jerry:
I bought Word Perfect 8 somewhere around 1988-90. I used it till this summer. Tried to convert some of my files to Office. Bad mistake. No problem converting Office files to Word Perfect X8. It also included AfterShot 3. Have you used any of Corel's photo editing software? If you have, what do you think of it?

I have a Perfect Office collectors item. Novell bought Perfect Office, had these hats made for the kick off, but sold it to Corel before the launch. Corel reps were giving away the hats.

I'm still using Word Perfect, on X7 right now (i.e. version 17), the Home Version which I paid about $40 for. Been using WP since 1990, with WP 5.1 for DOS. If I were you I'd just recommend staying on WP, all your 25+ year old docs will work fine. Recommend the Home version, it's a lot cheaper and there is very little that the regular version has that is not in the Home version.
I'm a huge Corel PaintShop Pro user (on Version 2018) which just came out in August 2017. Fantastic program, does almost everything that Adobe Photoshop (the full version) does at a fraction of the price.
I played with AfterShot 3 about two years ago. It's a good program, but I found that I much prefer using a Photo Processing program like PaintShop Pro. (PaintShop Pro is like Photoshop, where AfterShot is like Lightroom).

Nice memento! It's amazing to think that Word Perfect has been around over 30 years, and still a great program.

You keep the ability to see and export your edits. The catalog is YOUR data. You cannot edit. If you write changes to xmp you have even more choices for editing raw images.

Export to what ? the only program that can work with those edits is lightroom really , maybe some would be recognised by the standalone version if they were done with the 2012 process.
