Why do you fear subscription software?

I don't think people fear subscription software. I believe it's more objecting to taking on another monthly payment. If you are a person that would update the software every time a new version comes out it would probably save you money and a good option. No everyone that buys and uses the software would always update to the new version. I, and I suspect a fair number of others, only upgrade when the software we use will no longer do what we are wanting to do or if the new version offers new features that I feel I really want/need. When I buy my software and don't need or want to go with a new version the one I have still works without costing me anything more than my original investment. I haven't bought any new cameras that my software can't open and if I do I can use a free DNG converter and open it in the software I have.

A benefit in the form of “a real timrbtyñ”(????). Since no oblivious spell checker or auto correct could have possibly concocted such a noun, it is obvious you must have intentionally typed it that way, JD750. So I have to ask you what the fuck is “a real timrbtyñ”????

I don't know what it is either, but, I'm damned sure getting “a real timrbtyñ" printed on a T-shirt tommorow!

Not only do I not fear Adobe's subscription software, I prefer it. It is constantly being improved, the revenue stream Adobe gets from the subscription means they can make better learning opportunities available to me, when I upgrade other equipment - cameras, printers, monitors - I don't have to wonder if my software will be compatible, etc. I find that paying $20/month is cheap given that I charge $250/hour+ for my services. I see no downside whatsoever.

No fear been a CC subscriber (the $50/month plan) for the last 2 years...I use many of the apps - Ps, Lr, Pr, Mu, Dw, Ai, Id, Xd mainly. It's a great value IMO.

Software "leasing" is a relatively recent concept but in reality we have always leased software just that we have been paying upfront for a lease that expires at some future date - all software eventually becomes obsolete without updates and maintenance - BUG FIXES!. Folks like to think that they "own" software they do not - it's just a license to use IP - software.... the Adobe CC pricing model actually makes their suite affordable to many more people....I remember when CS6 was selling for something like $2000 which only included a year of updates.

SaaS (Software as a Service) is a similar model but the software resides only in the cloud...Adobe is also in this arena for CC.

That is a very good question. For me I did use the LR range-adjust feature and liked it. I will use that in my workflow in the future.

But I also did notice some bug fixes, can’t list them all but I remember a Lightroom printing problem disappeared, which was important to me.

Thank you. I'm glad to hear that somebody found a new feature they will use.

My point is it will often require or actually implement upgrades in the operating system that causes problems with other software on the system.[/quote]

Yes, I wish I could buy gas for my car this way, no matter how much or little I use it I would pay only $10 or so monthly.
But since a good deal like that is not available in any subscription offers of any kind I prefer to pay for only what I need and use.

Would you still feel that way if you only used $1 of gas on average every month?

Just got a new computer because of hard drive failure. Should have removed more pictures and double backed them up on jump drives and other means. Have PS CS2 on CD however won't work on new computer. Now decided to rebuild to rebuild old computer. I guess another conputer wont hurt anything. Six computers for three people is not a glut.

NOT AT ALL... I own stock in Walmart, Oklahoma Gas and Electric, Hartford Insurance, and Apple. I don't own Adobe stock but I do appreciate what they have done. Also, for the software that I get for $10 per month, it would cost an initial investment of $1000 and then once the software aged, I would have to upgrade again.. lets see 3 years for an upgrade... so 3 into 1000 is $333 per year.. then you get to do it again. hmm and Adobe is offering at $120 per year? hmmm It doesn't take an accountant to figure that out.

So what you are saying is that Adobe is letting you have $333 worth of software for $120 per year.

Please don't let Adobe find this out. It would be a shame if they had to fire all their accountants, especially with Christmas just around the corner.

“Fear” is hyperbole. It could just be that there are some less fortunate with less resources and on a fixed income. Committing to a subscription just may not be in their budget.
