My favorite SLR was the Alpa brand-all models, because of their unique body design that stood out from the others plus their optical excellence of their lenses made by Kern Swistar plus few others.
My Df is my favorite DSLR that's why I own it. It also stands out from the other like the Alpa did!

I remember Alpa, Wing ... whatever happened to them?

The Df is a fine camera ... one of Nikon's very best ....

The D7000 also has a 16MP sensor .... but, does video, too ....

Still ... you can't get a better still dig cam than the Nikon Df ...

If I bought it I must have liked it. So every one of my cameras were favorites.

Chris T So, tell me ... between the two K-3s ... which do you like the best?

Well, do like both K3's. The only sad thing is that the K3ii does not have onbboard flash or fill in. Don't need the GPS but its handy for star nights which I haven't use yet!

I liked the K-3 very much, too ... for the short time I had it ....

Never bought the K-3 II .... just BECAUSE they left off the flash, to make room for the GPS ... silly ... not that they added the GPS, but that they had to remove the built-in flash, to do it!

I have both the Nikon D5300 AND the Sony a77 .... both have GPS ... and still have their built-in flash units, too ... so what's the deal w/ Pentax?

Nikon F100 was my go to camera for years. Now I use the 850 and the DF constantly and have to say my love is for the DF.

I wanted to go didital. Went to my favorite Camera store. I saw a photograph I really liked on their wall. It was a 30 x 40 image. I asked what Camera was used and what lens. It was a D70 with a 70-300 mm lens. I bought both. Had it been a Canon I would have bought that. Now many cameras later I’m glad with my choice. I have since sold both the D70 and that lens.

Jack

Were you ever able to make a 30x40 with that D70 and 70-300 Nikkor lens as good as the one you saw on the camera store wall, Jack?

Why did you sell them both?

What do you use now, Jack?

The F3 was a fine camera, Dennis ... now, wait ... you "bought a nice, used Nikon (F4, FA, FE, FE2, FM2)" .... all at once???

Sounds like you've been catching up a little on the Pentax film cameras, huh? .... What did you get in MF and in LF?

Lest anyone think I couldn't control my emotions, I spread the purchases out over 3 months!

Most of the cameras came from two local dealers. They both run eBay sites, and the equipment has been outstanding. The Pentax ES-II, and Super Program came via garage sale. The owner stated he put in fresh batteries, and they still didn't fire up. Got both for $20. Went home and downloaded the manuals, got the batteries re-oriented, and both run like tops. The only downside to the "Programs" is the loss of silvering in the pentaprism; however, they've all produced great images. The Takumars, especially clean SMC's are a bit hard to find, since they and the Nikkors get used by folks who shoot Micro 4/3 format.

I was always a closet FE lover, and I sold one a few years ago, and regretted it since. The FE is mint, as is the FE2. The FA is an experiment, since its electronics and mechanics can be spotty. I haven't had a moment's problem with any of them, though. I just bought the FM2 last week, because I wanted a true manual SLR, and it fills the bill. The F4 was $250 and the finder had no "static" in it. I already had a number of AI, AIS lenses, and I've picked up a couple to add to the kit.

A little over a year ago, I found, in short order, a Mamiya 645 Pro TL from a Japanese vendor. It came with two lenses, three backs, motor drive, extension tubes, and AE finder, for $535, including shipping, on eBay. It's in "out of the box" condition. I also found a screaming deal on a C330s, with 4 lenses and the CDS porrofinder. The Mamiya lenses are dirt cheap, especially from Japan. I found a literally new in the box 210mm f4 for $90.

I jumped back into large format with a Graflex Super and two lenses (135 Graflex, 180 Commercial Ektar wide field, for $250. The Cambo came with two lenses, ten film holders, case, etc. for $450. I also got my hands on a Pentax digital 1 degree spot, Zone VI conversion, for $200, and a Sekonic L508, nearly mint, for $100.

I enjoy the film. Folks out there are virtually walking away from these classics. However, their loss, my gain, especially since I'll use them.

Canon EOS 5, a brilliant camera in it's day. I had an EOS 650, EOS 600, EOS 10 and an EOS 5. My favourite today is my Nikon D500, but my Olympus EM1 mark II runs it very close. For a number of reasons my EOS 5 does not come close to my Nikon or Olympus: most obvious are speed of autofocus and fps.

You had an EOS 650, Jerrin? .... Where's it now?

I think that's the same as my Rebel T4i .... my favorite all-round ... you didn't like it, or what?

Jerrin ... how does your Nikon D500 compare with those older Canons you had? .... Handling-wise, features, output, etc.?

You actually like the Df better than the D850, huh, Billy?

What's let you down about the D850?

I think it compares well. Of course the 7D is bigger and heavier.

How many have you tried on your new K-1, Narog?

Which Pentax 6x7 lenses have been fantastic on the 645Z?

My favorite slr was a Canon F1. Lost it in a fire and found a used Nikon F photomic which I still have. I also liked my F3 a lot, also I still have. My favorite DSLR simply because it's my newest is a D200 (don't laugh too hard).

Okay ... did you rummage thru the ruins, Jim ... I'll bet, if you had, you'd have found your F1 ... may not have been much the worse for wear !!!!

I can't remember when the D200 was current. But, actually ... I was out of it, for a while, after I'd lost some stuff ... and next time I'd turned around - everything had gone digital!!! .... I was amazed!!!! .... So, no idea when that was ....

I guess I didn't get back into things again until 2010 - first dig cam (2011 - first DSLR) ... now, I'm up to the D7000 and D7100 ....

How do you compare your newest DSLR (the D200) with your old F3, Jim?
