I think it compares well. Of course the 7D is bigger and heavier.

That's it, Kerry ...?

Just bigger and heavier?

Nikon F Photomic/D500. D500 is far superior.

I knew that had to be your post, Chris. My first was a Canon F-1, now commandeered my a 19 year old friend of mine and still performing perfectly. I used it as a pro, so it was not lightly used. Now I shoot a Canon 6D. Although I still shoot a recently acquired Hasselblad, I can't count the ways in which I truly appreciate what digital has to offer.

Oh, right, Bill ...

Pac's gonna spend three grand on a piece of glass, huh?

Chris, the site is back up. The prices are in Taiwan Dollars. There is a conversion option at the bottom of the page. Approximate cost range is AU$120-150 or US$90-115. I assume shipping would be from Taiwan. I don’t know about the VAT, if any.

We all had a favorite, didn't we? ... You may even still have it, right? ... How does your current best DSLR tally up, against it?

My first 35 mm was a Rollei 35 with Zeiss Tessar lens. I miss it. My last is a Nikon Df - looks like an FM on steroids. Still learning how to best use this.

A workmate had purchased a Canon AT-1and we had some fun with it. Inspired me to purchase my first SLR of the same make. A couple years later I bought AE-1 for my wife. This pair lasted many years, B/W in one, color in the other. First digital was Canon PowerShot G-1, that and a G-4, worked for a awhile. I've had Canon 60D a few years. While I like it, I still need to learn so much about how it works to get it to work like my film cameras.

SLR = Canon EOS 3
DSLR = Canon 5DS
They both used the same set of lenses

Comparison = When it comes to image quality --- There is no comparison
The EOS 3 Initial cost was low -- was a great learning tool, fun to use, on long trips with 50 or more rolls of slide film proved to be very expensive to operate but did produced "some" great looking slides
The 5DS High initial cost -- produces low cost Images & Prints that are far superior to any camera I have ever owned

The 60D has a steep learning curve, Alan ... had mine since 2012 .... still learning all its ins and outs .... but, it's still a better deal than my A1 !!!

In what ways, specifically, JD?

Hmm...let me count the ways: higher shutter speed; higher ISO/ASA; digital superiority over film; auto focus options; instant feedback; gazillion menu options; BB focus; bracketing; fps; etc. Don't get me wrong, they were/are superior cameras for their time. It's just that, for me, technology wins out. jdm

It's another world, isn't it, Al?

I almost bought a 500c - back when it was the going thing ... now, the dig version is more than my house cost!!!!

The 6D is quite a dig cam, huh?

FF ... doesn't cost an arm and a leg ... and still packs a punch, huh?

My first “real” camera was an Agfa-Karat 36, which didn’t even have a light meter. You had to take a reading with your handheld meter, then adjust the settings on the camera and THEN take the photo.

But, my all-time FAVORITE camera has got to be the venerable Nikon F Photomic, when my father gave it to me (after upgrading to a smaller, lighter FE). The F was, as you all know, all manual. No electronics anywhere. The battery only powered the light meter, but you really didn’t even need THAT. Completely manual shutter. Manual everything. What it DID for me was it made me LEARN photography. What works, what doesn’t work. That, and being heavy. The F was Nikon’s way of wearing a brick around your neck. But I loved it. I’d still be using it today if it wasn’t stolen back in the early 90s.
